Pretty much this.

I'm in consensus with the 'pass on Chiasson for Yakupov' deal.

Yup everything tjcurrie said is completely true, Yakupovs biggest issues are the small plays that don't end up on the scoresheet he's selfish with the puck and struggles using his teammates, and is awful defensively so bad that eakins is scared to even put him out there because of the fear of the puck ending up in his own net. I think he can turn it around and understand that there is more to the game then scoring goals but who knows when that will be and I would hate it if Stars took that type of risk on him.

a package of eakin+ for Yak, I would consider. But anything for Chiasson, I'm not even considering.

I don't think I would. Why are we gambling on wingers when that's Dallas' strongest position now and in the future?

Eakin has the look of a capable 2nd line center but top end 3rd line center. He looks like he will easily be a perennial 40 point center, and that's a luxury most teams don't have from their 2nd/3rd line center.

Yakupov's trick is a potential special trick, but for me he's not even close to worth the risk.

If Dallas didn't already have Benn, Nichushkin, Chiasson, and Richie I could see taking a risk. No reason to stock up on high scoring wingers when you need top end D and another high scoring center. That's just wasting assets on an already solid position.

Heck ... it's worse than just wasting assets.

It's taking a position where you are OK but need improvement and turning it into a major weakness.

What would you guys give up for one of Franson and Gunnarsson? Or hell even both? If it is both then one of our Ds would go back along with Fiddler ++ I would think

Yakupov wouldn't be worth trading for IMO.

Do you guys think Minnesota would give up one of Scandella or Stoner? Ive been impressed with both of them so far this season, and they would be fill a role on this team as a defense first defenseman.

Considering that Minnesota currently has 8 NHL quality defenseman on their roster, I could see one of them potentially being available for the right price. Im not really sure though.

What would the NYR want in your opinion for Del Zotto from a Dallas standpoint?

I bet theyd be asking for Ritchie, or maybe even try to pry Chiasson.

Well if that was the case they would hear a dial tone. We don't need Del Zotto but it would be nice to have him but not at those costs.

There's not too much Dallas would be willing to offer that a team would trade a young PMD for. They're going to want a young offensive talent, and something like Stratsky or Glennie isn't going to be enough for a proven NHLer.

Well, I think Whitney would be great with EStaal and Semin. Tlusty is playing with them now. I don't really want Tlusty messing with the chemistry on other lines in Carolina, so.. Tlusty+ for Whitney and Cole?

I think something along the Jagr/Roy deals from last season. Both returned a 2nd and a player who is currently on the NHL roster. Holding on to Whitney until the TDL makes the most sense to me, both Vancouver and Phoenix fans have expressed strong interest in him.

Do you think Tlusty and a 2nd would bring in both Whitney and Cole?

Free Agent Targets

A bit off-topic but looking ahead to this off-season there seems to be 2 ideal UFA's for Dallas. With all of the money coming off our books this off-season and next and possible compliance buy-outs ... what do you guys think of Paul Stastny and Dion Phaneuf? My guess is that each would probably be asking somewhere around 5-7 years around 6.5 or 7 million per year.... Stastny is 27 and Phaneuf is 28 ... a contract of that term would give them one more sizable contact at age 33 or 34.

Stastny slots in as our 2C which allows Eakin to be a perfect fit as our 3C. If this happens, it would seem Eakin or Faksa could be trade bait eventually.

Phaneuf steps in as our #1 and helps mentor Oleksiak and Dillon.

This is obviously contingent upon them not re-signing with their current teams and making it to free agency.

Thoughts?

I have no idea. I can't imagine a better NHL player being involved in a deal for either, but at the same time it is tough to move two guys who can play in the top 6.

I'm personally not a fan of Stastny, but honestly those two adds would do wonders for the franchise.

But it would require that we shoot Cole and Horcoff and probably Gonchar into the sun.
