Will the leafs make their buy outs tomorrow?

Do you think that JFJ will get the buy outs done tomorrow or will he leave us in suspense until the end of the buy out period to see who's gone. Do you think there will be any surprises?

Then he will "identify, procure, develop and manage" his assets

What are some other lines in the JFJ press conference handbook?

The guy doesn't like to let anyone know his plans.

Being the GM of the Leafs, is that a good thing, or a bad thing?

There needs to be a balance..yea he should keep certain things to himself (they do a lot of that in NJ), but he also needs to be more accessible to the media and fans IMO. And by that I mean not give out answers with a lot of words that ultimately say nothing...

Its annoying sometimes...comes off like a politician when he talks. Needs to relax a bit.

Just wait until about 12 hours before the deadline on any guy that he isn't quite sure about to see who has been bought out, who will be available (UFAs and unqualified RFAS) and take it from there.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Roberts and Nieuwendyk...do you lock them up this week while you hold their negotiating rights or wait until August 1st to see what else is out there? Ferguson already met with their agent...gotta wonder if a decision has been made there.

If they don't get Roberts signed while they have exclusive rights, they probably lose him. I don't think he will re-sign before August 1st and is likely lost.

I agree that he could afford to relax. I think he is genuinely uncomfortable with the media. He does not know how to interact with talk show hosts who try to banter with him, and his answers are truly uninformative. Occasionally his quotes are misleading, as the media tries to make something out of his balderdash.

If he builds a good tream then I'll forgive him, but I wish he would throw out a little more quality info for the sake of us die-hard fans.

Funny, fans of the Avs will tell you they never know what is happening with their team, but when something goes down they are usually happy about it.

Loose lips sink ships.

BEHIND THE NET: The Senators won't be alone in their pursuit of LW Gary Roberts. The word is the Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers and Anaheim Mighty Ducks are all interested in the 39-year-old unrestricted free agent. The former Ottawa 67's star spent part of his NHL career in Carolina after returning from a devastating neck injury that required surgery. Sources say Roberts' first choice is to stay in Toronto, but the Senators are a close No. 2 because he wants a shot at winning another Stanley Cup before his career is over. Roberts may also try and convince C Joe Nieuwendyk, who along with Roberts won a Cup with Calgary in 1989, to follow him wherever he goes ...

There are very few scenarios in life where this is true. There are probably more where tight lips would sink the ship. But maybe we should move this over to the ships forum.

I agree with having discretion. but don't you think it would be nice (just 'nice'- not essential) if JFJ were a little more dynamic to listen to?

He always looks puzzled and confused when being interviewed. For example..

Interviewer: John, how will you handle the Owen Nolan situation?

JFJ:

Interviewer: John?

JFJ:

Interviewer: JOHN!

JFJ: Evaluate?

Lets sign him just to make sure Ottawa doesn't get him.

I see O'Neill joining Roberts as well, I'm guessing in Toronto.

I agree, if Roberts resigns with Toronto he could help land O'niell.

But if Roberts leaves Toronto it could hurt there chances of landing O'niell

Given the confusion with Nolan and what it will cost to buy him out I'm guessing JFJ will delay as long as possible in hopes of further information coming to light that may impact his buyout costs.

As a sens fans I would feel very stoked really excited about the season/line possibilities. The picture of the jersey was great I havent been able to imagine his name on a sens jersey until I saw that. Thanks.

He'd fit in beautifully, add some physicality and veteran leadership.
Probably the Sens two biggest weaknesses... though on a roster like theirs, anything less then stellar may be a weakness comparatively speaking.

Im with you on this one, and I also want Joe Nieuwendyk back

as for the question: Will the leafs make their buy outs tomorrow?
I dont think so
I think JF Jr gonna wait until the FREAKIN Nolan-case is somewhat settled and in the last minutes before the deadline hes gonna do something (I dunno what, but something)

I was expecting a frenzy of trades, signings, rumors but IMHO its gonna be an "Im still waiting"- summer in Leafsland

I don't really know, upset that it is on the jersey, but probably more upset for Roberts because if that is the best job that the Sens can do at putting his name and number on a jersey, then what is their on ice product going to be like? Man thats crooked and off-centre!!

I would like to see alot of good players sign for cheap to win the cup..

alla Nasland Forsburg Kariya Scott Needy Lindros Leetch Roberts Newy O'niel

for like 1.5 mill each for just 1 year.and then show the NHL that you can still buy a team...... lol

unlikely but wishful thinking...

it's just I hate those pesky fans who say Toronto is going to suck and get no one....
there done, they can't buy a team..

and then thats when you tell them... The best players in hockey are CANADIAN and want to play at home..

/rant lol
