Grabner to MTL?

What would montreal have to give to get grabner? He has speed to burn a line with him and bournival would be deadly.

Honestly haven't seen or heard much about him last couple of years, was he just a one-year wonder as his stats suggest?

Yes, because getting even smaller and softer in exchange for a negligible improvement in offense is just what the habs need right now.

I`d do Gorges+pick for Grabner easy. We have defensemen that can replace Gorges pretty well, and I prefer having some offensive firepower instead of another dime a dozen stay at home defensemen.

Man he's quick. He must be exciting (and frustrating) to watch.

I don't see the Habs as really being a team that would actively go out and look at adding Grabner... what the Habs need up front is some combination of size and/or game-breaking scoring. Grabner doesn't represent either of these. Habs are getting his kind of game (+ extra scoring) from Bournival right now, and could just elevate Bournival's icetime and responsibility if they wanted.

It's ludicrous to propose trading Gorges for him, the Habs need Gorges much more, the role of dependable shut-down defender that Gorges fills is more important to the team. If the Isles were ever looking to deal Grabner, I'm sure they'd find a higher return for him than the Habs can afford.

Well, he isn't a 35+ goal scorer as that first year (34 goals in 76 games) would have suggested, but he hasn't been bad until this year.

His second year he put up 20 goals, and last year he scored 16 in 45 games, a 29 goal pace over an 82 game season.

This year he scored 2 on opening night but hasn't scored since. Odds are pretty good he will heat up at some point and get 20+ goals. He isn't a star, but he is a pretty solid goalscorer whose speed makes him a threat every night and a solid penalty killer.

We need size, not more speed. That's what we got Briere for

QFT!

We do not need more small soft guys. We are littered with small soft guys. We absolutely do not trade one of the better defensive defencemen in the league with tons of character and leadership along with an insane willingness to block shots for this guy.

Habs say "no"/

I was going to mention that as well, Habs are always preaching that they need more size up front...why Grabner?

Personally, I am skeptical of Grabner's current market value for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is his backloaded contract (which is a big problem for teams that don't spend to the cap and have internal payrolls). I suspect he still has value because he does bring a lot to the table despite the inconsistency, but I doubt his market value is high. If I had to put it in draft pick terms, I see him maybe as a 2nd to 3rd rounder.

I don't think he gets Gorges nor do I think Habs should trade Gorges.

I also don't think Borque has any real value. I think the Isles would pass him up if he is on waivers. So, I see that component of things as being unrealistic as well.

In short, I don't see a deal that makes sense for either team.
