This doesn't help the Canucks, we don't need another 20-goal scorer.

How about a package for Grabovski, he could play centre for Kesler.

Not really sure what it would take to get him, any ideas?

With the exception of the Sedins, the Canucks don't have any premier playmakers. Higgins is more of a two-way player but he's ability is to work the boards to free up the puck rather than making that key pass. Santorelli has some skill, but I think he's not as skilled as the Sedins in creating scoring opportunities. I just think that the Canucks need another premier set up man.

I think the ideal situation is to find a playmaker to play with Kesler. Stastny would be great, Brassard would also be a good acquisition. The Canucks have four defensemen who make over $4 million but Tanev and Stanton have proven (in my mind at least), that they are capable of filling a top 4 role (though I would like to keep Stanton in the 5/6 role). That's why trading Edler or Bieksa is possible in my mind (if they waived their NTC).

Edler is inconsistent. Some nights he's easily one of the best defensemen in the league, others he struggles. Ryan O'Reilly is a good young player, but I think he's more of another two-way player like Higgins, not specialising in any one area. I think getting Barrie plus a high draft pick along Stastny would be a good return for Vancouver.

If you want a center there is Andrei Loktionov. He is soft but he has skill.

Ryder primary gets his offense from turnovers. What are the Sedins fantastic at doing? Causing turnovers. Ryder would feast on a line with them. He also put up 30 goals two years ago and was on pace for an encore, or close to it.

I don't think he is the solution to the Canucks scoring woes either

Sure, he would be a good addition, but I still don't think Michael Ryder i going to solve the Canucks scoring problems. He could be part of the solution, but we need more than that

So the Canucks are looking for a 40 goal scorer?

Can't get a 40G scorer for the assets we'd be filling to ship out. A guy like Ryder seems like a more realistic fit. Not sure if I'd wanna do a Jensen deal 1-for-1 but works in principle and a close one at least.

They aren't looking for any one thing in particular. They are looking for a 1st/2nd liner that meshes well with two of Kesler, Burrows, Hansen, Higgins, Santorelli, Kassian... Someone that makes the 2nd line dangerous offensively. Some think they need a goal-scorer to pot the chances they get off the forecheck. Others (like myself) think they need a playmaker to create some plays off the rush and dissect Ds off the forecheck.

The nice thing is that with Kesler and Santorelli being able to play both C and W, any forward with the requisite talent is a possibility. The Canuck's however don't have much to offer besides futures, so they are mostly looking at aging guys or UFAs - players with a diminished trade cost.

From NJ, the guys I'd be interested in are Elias and Jagr. NJ probably doesn't want to think about trading either until close to the deadline (and Elias perhaps not at all). Ryder just doesn't cut it - he's someone who will put goals in net with his shot but he doesn't make a line dangerous.
