Woolley ?

i doubt detroit needs him.

would the leafs think of going after him?
not my favorite player)

i'd sooner sign berard.

i'm just thinking of D's that might become available shortly...

woolley
karpovstev
hedican
a.ward
timander

the leafs would have to trade aki useless for a pick or dump pushor to make room

I don't see leafs having a big interest in any of those players, some for money reasons, others for skill or age...

and picking one would force the Leafs to drop another Dman if you are talking about being available because of the Waiver draft....and that player is likely Berg as you said.... with me conceiting that the other 5 dmen protected will be Kaberle, McCabe, Marchment, Klee, Jackman ...

Would it be a big upgrade on Berg and it would certainly cost more salary to make the switch to do it ... So I am not so sure its worth it...

The only player on that list I would think about is Aaron Ward if available who may be a steadier stay at home Dman than Berg and worth a lateral move..

do the leafs really need Wooley? They do not really need another 5 or 6 guy. Assuming that Klee/Kaberle are the first pair and McCabe/Marchment are the second that leaves Jackman, Pusher, Berg, Carlos, Max K, Hedin, Pilar and Belak fighting for the #6/7 spots. Personelly I would like to see Carlos and Berg in the #5/6 spots and see how that goes. IMO if the leafs are going to bring someone else in it would be someone better to play with McCabe and move Marchment to the #5 spot.

It will not be the strongest defense in the league this season but it will be interesting to see who clicks with who and if any of the young guys can step up.

Woolley- Is not what the Leafs need right now
Karpovtsev- I liked him in Toronto, but he's always injured and makes way too much money.
Hedican- He'd be good, but he' got a ridiculous contract.
Ward- Coming off a sub-par season, but he is steadier than Berg. Again though I think he has an expensive long-term deal.
Timander- Not much better than what we already have.

i was thinking along the lines of trading reichel for woolley initially.

detroit would prefer green i'm sure

woolley's got some skill.

i couldnt be bothered with the others
...maybe karpovtsev

adding another skill defenseman would be nice

all spare parts - no place at all on the Leafs.

They need someone as good as or better than a McCabe to make anything worthwhile.

That is not going to come through the waiver draft - only a trade.

the only player of real interest to me out of that list is Bret Hedican.

Why would you trade for any of those guys?

There are still players available that would cost assets, and if someone is accepting Reichel, you want more than a 7th. d-man in return, or someone like Schneider who'd have a similar contract.
