Toronto + Edmonton Blockbuster (On or before draft day)

To Edmonton: James Reimer, Jake Gardiner, Peter Holland, a 2014 1st round draft pick (presumably around 20th overall), and a 2015 1st round draft pick.
To Toronto: Nail Yakupov, and a 2014 1st round draft pick (presumably 2nd overall).

Leafs draft Aaron Ekblad, and their top nine forwards and top four d-men look like...

JvR - Kadri - Kessel
Lupul - Bozak - Yakupov
Kulemin - Bolland - Clarkson

Gunnarsson - Phaneuf
Rielly - Ekblad

Edmonton gets their long-awaited #1 goalie, a d-man with top-pairing upside, gets deeper at the center position, and gets futures in two 1st round draft picks.

Woot for both teams?

So Yakupov and Ekblad for Riemer, struggling bottom pairing dman, and scraps?

Seems legit.

Well, if you want to put it that way, then I guess Yakupov is a struggling bottom six winger.

Leaf fans can keep dreaming. Lots of tenders available this summer. Not giving up a potential franchise dman. If Yak continues his current play the whole league better watch out.

Absolutely horrible for the Oilers, try adding Kadri or Kessel and even then its debatable.

Kadri or Kessel? You mean one of the best wingers in the league, and an up-and-coming #1 center with a good season behind him, and on pace for another good season?

By that statement, in comparison, Robin Lehner isn't a #1 goalie because he's not good enough to outplay Anderson last year. James Reimer is a #1. They're also splitting the starts atm because both are playing amazingly. Not one is playing better than the other, both are doing great and both are winning. At least do some research before spouting nonsense.

He's a god now because of a two point game last night. His value in HF land has increased over night and he's back to being that player everyone knew he could be.

Trades never work when one side is giving up the top 2 most valuable assets.

I think if you do the same exercise with the Oilers' roster and do a mock lineup, you'll see exactly why the Oilers turn that deal down.

Edmonton gives up the two most valuable assets in the deal.

Start by removing the picks. No team is going to trade a lottery pick for two worse 1sts. That's HF alchemy where fans want to turn average picks into awesome picks. It's not realistic.

I could see Oilers trade Yakupov, but not for Gardiner. I would think a straight swap for Rielly would be what MacTavish would consider.

I don't think MacT would make a Yakupov/Reilly trade either.

I like how the bad proposals that were once just for Yakupov are now for both him and the oilers first.
