Nope. If they play every song from Rage's album Evil Empire throughout the night... the music will be 100000000000x better than anything else they put on.

And which childish crap is this exactly?

And kids going on a school night is an issue for the parents, not the team. The Devils aren't bringing kids to the game, but that doesn't mean they're not going to make an accommodating environment for those that are there just because of the day of the week. It's not a bar.

This is what makes no sense... We can't yell "sucks", yet little kids dancing to Blurred Lines is totally fine. Has anyone ever taken a look at the music video or the lyrics for that song, its very kid friendly

And no, on-ice performance is a big part of it. If the game presentation sucks, people don't care as much if the team is winning. Many people, especially adults, go for the game and for the team that is winning more often. If the team sucks, the game presentation/atmosphere/all of this other stuff is an additional point of complaining. Winning cures all in sports. This is no different.
I agree atmosphere is better when the team is winning, but we aren't exactly bottom feeders this month. Also last year the team was terrible and games were both sold out and more energetic. I have to agree with some posters that something feels different and some of the energy has been curtailed.

Last year was also a unique situation that you can't replicate though. There was a level of fan excitement with the team coming back so quickly at the end of the lockout. People were eager to go back. 48 game season, only 24 home games. People could go to the same number of games they would in a full season, but be at a higher percentage of them. Because there are few total seats for them to sell during the year (the amount of seats available per game x the total number of games. that entire inventory), that's going to give them higher attendance figures each night if people are going to attend the same number of games as they would in a 41 game home schedule. Wouldn't surprise me if some people were more eager to buy full-seasons/plans because it was fewer games (and less money), and no one was stuck with pre-season games they didn't want.

And well... throw in the fact the team had just come off playing in the Stanley Cup finals... that again mean on-ice performance played a role in the momentum of fan interest...

Don't forget the team doesn't historically sell well until after the Super Bowl, another luxury we had last year

The hypocrisy in changing the goal song to avoid fans yelling "you suck" while having scantily-clad ("whoreish" according to the wife) dancers and playing songs like Blurred Lines is astounding.

It's a joke to anyone with a brain.

We really screwed it up by missing the playoffs last year. Absolutely killed that new momentum and casual fan interest in the team. Suddenly everyone was a Devils fan and it was pretty awesome.

Thank the lockout and Lou/Conte/Pete for that too.
And a half hearted effort from Mr Kovalchuk.

Also the Devils played what they thought was a really strong hand and then realized that the cards on the river rendered their hand useless.

They raised STH prices, their created a bunch of ridiculous tiers, they raised box office prices. They raised concession prices. They started all of these ridiculous policies and started policing fans.

The Devils felt that the Stanley Cup run was the reality of their fanbase when truthfully it was just the potential of the fanbase. "If you guys get your **** together and do things right THIS is what you could have."

The Devils saw the fans and saw dollar signs. It backfired.

Not many teams lower pricing after going to the Finals.
Last year's on-ice flop did more damage to the potential/causual fan than the other points you made above.
Your points are more noticiable to the long time or diehard fan and/or STHer.

The majority of my points are, fair point. But prices are a universal language. They banked on that hype turning into profit and the only ones that did pay were the diehards.

This year's BO prices were in effect before they took over. But, they could have done what they did with the 76ers and slash prices a few weeks before the season started. So for that Harris and co. deserve blame here.

Lose Kovy, lose Parise, a potential for a boring dreadful on-ice product yet let's keep everything status quo.

The first part, yes. The second part (slashing prices a few weeks before the season)... a lot more difficult than you make it seem. Slash prices, but to what degree? If you get it anywhere near the line of what STHs are paying, you screw the whole thing up and piss off all of your most important ticket holders (the ones who agree to put out money for all 44 games are always going to be most important to any franchise), especially since some of them paid for the whole season in advance. Yes, you can always refund them a difference, but then it gets to be more trouble than its probably worth (for the team). They're a little handcuffed by that point, especially since they're dealing with far more full season ticket holders (I would assume) than the 76ers were at that point.

And it doesn't help they have 900 different price points and five pricing tiers. They would all have to adjust to varying degrees too. Some sections/tiers are more overpriced than others.

Big time. The last 2-3 years not included (too much variability with the finals run and the lockout the following year), you can usually tell which areas they have problems selling because the same spots always have a ton of empties on most games. It always used to be the lower level corners/behind the net (MSG had the same problem, even though the Rangers always sell out every single game, bruh). It's a weird price point because its the lower bowl, but with a worse view than sideline in the mezz. They slashed the prices downstairs like 3-4 years back, many moved down there, and those have been decently filled ever since. Then it was the balconies, and those were fixed with the very cheap season tickets, etc. Now there are just too many price points that its near impossible to identify a problem area or two and fix it. They can look at it and say "ok, the problem is Section 3 rows 11-16, Section 107 rows 1-4, Section 11 rows 6-10, etc." Yes, row 10 is better than row 15 (depending on your preferences), but does it need to be $5 a seat better?

I'm almost embarrassed reading this as a Devils fan

Quote:
“Where we have to put some focus and energy is into the corporate community,” said O’Neil, who was a Madison Square Garden executive from 2008 to 2012. “I think that’s what’s missing here. We need to get after them: meet them, tell them what we’re about, and show how this is a good way to drive business.”

“It’s not that the seats have been priced too high as much as there was not enough focus on small businesses,” Weber said. “These tickets for corporations can be like corporate golf outings in terms of networking — and when you don’t focus on that, you don’t sell them.”

“If you’re not creating an engagement with fans all season long, it’s a proven fact that [retention] percentages will fall down,” Weber said. ( is he serious? they have had ZERO engagement, it's been below piss poor)

All I'm going to say is that if Harris has an extra 46 million pounds (75 million dollars) laying around to purchase a random 2nd tier English club Charlton Athletic, he better give Lou the checkbook for free agency.

Wingman you don't feel that things like social media or the newsletter are ways of engaging fans? I mean it's certainly a lot more than it used to be.. I believe he's especially talking about STH to keep retention rates higher and I must say they do a good job keeping us informed.. I get an email almost weekly, plus I have a rep who I can call (now that they actually have an ample number of Fan Exp. Team members) with questions.. She's actually been really helpful whereas I used to have a hard time getting them to respond because they were so busy
