Derek Roy

What do you think Derek Roy's potential is? I think he is an interesting young player and I wanted to see what your opinions on him were.

third, maybe second line center
at the peak of his career could do 25-40-65
expect he'll be more of a 20-30-50 type guy
this year i expect about 40 points
is a good skater and works hard so i expect he should stick around in the nhl for a while

At best he could be a 2nd line center imo, maybe and a big maybe become a 1st liner. He certainly has the heart and the drive to do it, but the question is if his size will limit him or not.

I think if he's going to have success at the NHL level, he's going to do it on the left side. He's a high energy guy with a mean steak and soft hands. I think he can be a solid role player, 20 goals, 30 assists playing on a good 3rd line isn't beyond the realm of reason. I think he'll end up being a Cliff Ronning type of guy, where he can put up decent numbers if he gets the ice time, but serves better in a 2nd/3rd line/2nd PP unit type roll.

I see him as a scoring line center. On the Sabres that could be the 3rd line in terms of ice time. In the 2004 playoffs Roy did very well playing LW with the Amerks. If Connolly is impressive, I could see Roy switching positions.

Roy-Connolly-Afinogenov is starting to sound real good to me...

They could be very effective with the new rules. I'm especially eager to see Max. I hope Regier signs him.
