I would still obviously rather move Laich than him because Erat does pretty much everything Brooks does and does it better for the same $.
Yeah he had a terrible game but even the best do from time to time. Overall he has been playing well lately.

I am suprised to hear he still wants to be traded. I would think he would have softened his stance.

With the news of the salary cap increase he has become even more appealing to teams that need to hit the upcoming cap floor due to how his contract is structured. Also he is still a solid enough player that a contender would want to.

I hear several teams are interested but GMGMs asking price is "too high". He wants a good prospect in return. Its in the Caps best interest to hold onto him until someone bites and they surely will as the deadline approaches.

Erat's turnover-fest last night was pretty awful. Still, here's a quote from Trotz today in which he's not exactly gushing over his end of the Erat/Latta for Forsberg deal:

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2...world-juniors/

Forsberg, currently sidelined with an upper-body injury, has had a tough go with the Preds this season. Injuries and spells as a healthy scratch have limited him to just 12 games — in which he’s scored five points — and, earlier this week, Trotz said Forsberg still needs to learn the intricacies of the NHL game.

“He’s a tremendous young kid. He has a lot of ability. He has a long way to go to play in the National Hockey League on a regular basis. I shouldn’t say play in the National Hockey League — to produce in the National Hockey League,” Trotz told The Tennessean. “I think he has a lot of great tools, exceptional hands and is a quality young man, but there’s still a long way for him to go.”

We tried it. It was the opposite of filthy. Zero goals together in six games. You can pretend that flipping their wings will somehow make it magically better, but I'm not buying it.

At this point, Erat is a good possession player who doesn't produce regularly. He has only scored points in six games this season. More than half of his points on the year came in two games (lop-sided victories over Columbus and Philadelphia). While I'm as big of an advocate for possession as anyone, if you want to be a top six player in this league you need to produce. Erat looks like Marco Sturm did when he was here. Not "bad" per se, but he doesn't really bring the needed offense. $4.5M for Erat as a 3rd liner is no better than $4.5M for Laich.

Are we worried about post Olympics Ovy? We saw what happened in 2010 and these Olympics are even more important to him. Will he be bummed again if Russian loses? Even if Russia wins gold, there could be some impacts.

Yes. That's what I've been saying. I don't think it's any coincidence that he went into a funk after the last Olympics and is now pulling out of it.

It more had to do with veterans on the team and BB telling him to save it for the playoffs. Then he kinda forgot how to be himself.

If Russia wins gold, I have no worries about Ovechkin. It's a rough loss that would worry me.

Fwiw, I don't think Ovi will be as affected by these Olympics as the last ones. He is older, more settled, and he's been through this before. A rough loss would be really painful, but I think not like last time.

If Russia wins, he'll be scoring two goals per game. They won't win though.

context. The Russians didn't just lose. They were embarrassed. It was hideous and while it was the coaching and things out of his control, Ov took a major portion of the blame. Crosby won on top of that.

Then the Caps suffered the embarrassing upset to Montreal of which the finger was again pointed at Ovechkin.

I don't think the Russians need to win this round of Olympics. They need to put up a fight they can be proud of and not get run out of the tourney by losing 8-0 to Crosby and his crew.

With the way things are going in Russia, if the hockey team collapses like it did last time, Putin will arrest Ovechkin and not let him return anyway.

We rarely agree on much but we agree on this. These Olympics are a HUGE deal for Ovechkin. Once in a lifetime, few people ever are in his position HUGE.

I said it 6 months ago...if they win, he might just carry the Caps to the Finals singlehandedly. If they flame out, well hopefully he's matured enough to weather it. Having the GF will help I'm sure.

Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov says that despite his agent saying he has "no future in Washington," he would like to remain with the Capitals, as long as he is playing.

“If I play here, yeah,” Orlov said Thursday. “I just want to play. If I play, I not think about being moved or not. My team is here. All the guys are good.”

OMG, that would be maddening...

Orlov is in the lineup now. It's his spot to lose.

that sounds really bad, but.....iirc Erskine had been skating 3rd pair when went out.
at present orlov is skating 2nd pair which would put Schmidt and Urbom below Orlov on the depth chart.

but we can continue to look for f'd up situations for entertainment.

Or we can just wait till Oates creates them. Fehr at center. Erat on the 4th line. Carrick dressing. Orlov not playing. etc.
