Cape Breton vs Rimouski tonight

Final score 2-1 Cape Breton. It looked like they dominated most of the night and outshot Rimouski 43-28. Crosby was shut down tonight as he didn't have a point today. But the only goal of the night belonged to our one and only Pouliot.

Baie-Comeau is also in the midst of a game tonight. No boxscore yet though.

Game just finished. Baie-Comeau won 3-2. Jacques had an assist.

The Moose Jaw Warriors got shut-out last night, Eric Fehr just moved ahead of KB for the WHL scoring lead (same # of points but he has more goals) although he has played one more game than Kyle has.

Hopefully Brodziak can keep it up and show that a 7th rounder can do just as well as a 1st rounder! (In the Dub, anyway.)

Rimouski beat Acadie-Bathurst 6-3 tonight. Crosby had 5 points, the kid is just an animal.

Interesting about MAP; he surprisingly didn't get a single point tonight, had 5 shots on goal and finished a -1...yet he was the 2nd star in the game?

That's awesome, I never even thought of that.

He must have had one wicked training camp to be the (7th, 8th, or 9th?) guy drafted by the Oil this year and already be their 15th highest rated prospect. McDonald and Pouliot are the only guys drafted ahead of him this year who are still rated higher than him.

P.S. - He seems to have gotten two more points in his last game, just enough to keep pace with Adam Courchaine of the Giants in the scoring race.

I'll tell ya what - I don't think there has ever been such a good time for a team to finish last place two years in a row. If you can get Ovechkin and Crosby in the next two years your franchise is SET! (these going to be two sure fire elite impact players - I would have to say that Lindros is the last player to have the career potential that these two have - and if Big E wouldn't have got a soft head - he probably would have been and still be the leagues elite player).

Michigan update: Wolverines swept Quinnipac 5-4, 3-2. Helminen picked up an ankle injury on Friday and sat out Saturday. He's questionable for next weekend. No points for him. Rohlfs picked up an assist on Saturday when Jeff Tambellini buried a rebound off his shot. Rohlfs and Helminen actually played on the same line most of Friday, until Dwight got injured.

I think I've seen enough of Rohlfs to render a first opinion: I think he's got very good potential. He's featured a nice shot on several occasions in several different situations--backhanders, one timers, etc. He's also fricking huge. He's not a great skater and I haven't seen him use his size to his advantage much yet but i like his potential for the future.

Anyone know anything about this guy from Novosibirsk?

Raw materials N. (16),

Nikolai Raw materials perhaps? Wearing #16.

Sounds intriguing...I wonder if he is a raw talent?

Read the game story from the Mikhnov link. Hilarious.

I have watch him a couple times last season. Not a great impression, really. This kid is still developing. But it seems for me now that he's improving fast. I am going to watch him this Monday against CSKA Moscow.

Niinimaki's numbers are looking pretty good now considering that he isn't on the top line and he's a 19 year old playing in the elite league.

Alexei Mikhnov got two assists tonight, and Sibir won 4-3 against Severstal, which is the team Ales Pisa is now playing for.

He's now 7-4-11 +2 in 15 games. Both Mikhnov and the team seem to be picking it up a bit, and have now moved up from 14th last week to 12th this week.

I will post a link to the game summary when I wake up, since it isn't up yet.

Glad to see him achieving some success! From what I've read/heard he should make a strong transition to North America next year, and lets hope that in two years time we'll be talking about the top six spot that is Mikhnov's to lose on the OIlers!!!

In terms of the level of play, how close is the Russian Super League to the NHL? Are they close to the AHL level, or a little higher?

Hopefully, Mikhnov will be worth the wait.

As for me, here in Russia, the level of Superleague is growing more and more. Never seen AHL games, but I guess the level of our championship is rather good. Second to the NHL.
Some teams can afford to pay top players 0.5 - 1 mln. $ a year. No taxes, BTW. The budgets of our top clubs are in range of 12-30 mln. $.
To mention a few our last top-class products Kovalchuk, Chistov, Datsuk, Volchenkov...
Expect more from Ovehkin, Zherdev, Mirnov, Malkin in a few years to come. And maybe Mikhnov too

What I'll be curious to see is if the CBA lockout goes on for more than a year, and the Superleague continues to improve in quality and more importantly compensation, will we see a big number of Russian players decide that playing at home while still being able to make 50-75% of they were making before in the NHL (but tax-free) might be more appealing...

When it comes right down to it, the ONLY reasons Russian and European players come to N. America to play in the NHL is (in order of importance):

1) It pays the most.

2) It's the highest quality league in terms of talent.

If the discrepancy in pay between NHL and russian/european leagues becomes close, perhaps we see a mass exodus?

From what I read, and just kinda by going what the few players I know do over there - I would say the Super league is quite a bit better then the AHL. IMO, I would say that the Super leagues top third of the league is as good as the bottom 4-5 teams in the NHL - but I could be off too!

Here's another one. Kootenay Ice vs Moose Jaw Warriors

Kyle Brodziak. 9th goal scored at 3:31 of the first period. Assisted by Fleischmann and Boychuk.

Brodziak now has 19 pts and is tied for the lead in pts with his teammate Tomas Fleischmann.

Brodziak

So from what I can tell Kyle Brodziak is going to make Lowe and Prendergast look like geniuses if he continues to score like he's doing so. I think him and Fleishmann make up 60% of Moose Jaw's offence, meaning he must be facing the top d pairings, yet he still manages to make the plays. I haven't seen much of his play, other then the Rookie Oilers vs Bears game and he looked pretty impressive. It seemed like he skated well, he has decent size (6'2, 200lbs) and had a decent draft year stats 32-30-62-84pim... so why was he passed up by so many other teams. Does other GMs know something we don't or did Lowe truly find a gem.

I was just poking around at some RSL stats and couldn't help noticing that, as well as leading the team in scoring from the second line, Alexei Mikhnov is tied for 11th in league scoring with 7-4-11, which puts him one goal and two points ahead of Alexandr Ovechkin.

He is also tied for sixth in goal scoring with Andrei Kovalenko, but has no points.

It's too bad we lost Alexander Fomitchev, because he currently has a 1.24 GAA and .957 SP in 11 games, on a poor team (12th of 16), second only to another former, though short term, Oiler, Jean-Francois Labbe.
