Draisaitl tossed 10 seconds into the 2nd period on a check from behind. There goes one of the reasons to continue watching this rout.

Sometimes I wish for a mercy rule. Norway, Germany have been awful. The U.S. game today is useless-you cannot tell anything about the players as it is a shooting gallery. Given the opportunities most of the folks on these boards could score the American goals. I feel sorry for the German goalie. This is crap.

Didn't catch the Draisaitl hit, was it bad enough to warrant a major in the NHL as well or was it more of a junior call?

My guess would be a double minor in the NHL, but who knows. It was a bad hit but the guy did turn into it to make himself vulnerable.

It wasn't that bad. They seem to be more sensitive to these type of hits in international hockey.

Draisaitl didn't extend his arms, so I saw it more as a pin attempt gone wrong (with Copp hunched vs tall). However, Draisaitl still went through Copp's back, which is what drew the major call from IIHF refs.

Rasmus Ristolainen not in the lineup today as Finland takes on Russia (Grigorenko, Zadorov). Puck has dropped. #Sabres

Saw an interview on swedish TV with Nikita Zadorov. That guy seems very mature and has pretty good english (almost no russian accent at all). I think you guys found a gem here. That guy is going to be a very good defenseman in the league in a couple of years. I guess the Zdeno Chara comparison is legit.

Germany beat the Czechs w/o Draisaitl:
@IIHFHockey

Germany captain Leon Draisaitl suspended for one game following match penalty. No supplementary disciplinary action. http://www.worldjunior2014.com/en/ne...itl-suspended/

What a ridiculous decision, but good thing they managed to win without him. Looks like this tournament could hurt Draisaitls draft stock more than it helps it, unless scouts don't put much emphasis on it since Team Germany isn't very good even with Drais.

Match penalties carry an automatic one-game suspension. The only decision made was no supplemental discipline, which wasn't needed IMO either.

A 5 minut major + game misconduct isn't the same as a match penalty though, but it looks like IIHF rules are different from the NHL in that regard. Still a stupid decision imho, if anything this was a valuable lesson for Copp because if you position yourself to the boards like that at the NHL-level, it's only a matter of time before you'll suffer a horrible injury.

Drouin is frustrating to watch at times, tries to deke out everyone on the ice and makes so many dumb plays, he needs to be smarter with the puck. He is still a supreme talent.

I really like the way Curtis Lazar plays the game.

@SabresProspects

Grigorenko (+1, team-high 6 SOG) had a better third period in loss to FIN. A little more urgency. Still need to see more consistent battle.

If Benning is hired as our GM I will be surprised if Grigorenko lasts more than a year into his 2nd contract with the organization. You can't be both soft and unable to skate and have an NHL future. The guy is timid against players younger than him FFS, it's just the type of person he is and always will be.

Benning doesn't seem to be the type of guy to let a soft, lazy player linger around the organization until he finally emerges the way Regier would.

World Juniors TV Schedule - Tuesday, December 31.
8:00 am ET - Russia vs Sweden - TSN (Canada).
8:30 am ET - Slovakia vs Czech Republic - TSN2 (Canada) - NHL Network (United States).
11:30 am ET - Canada vs United States - TSN (Canada) - NHL Network and NHL.com (United States).
(Coverage on TSN begins at 10:30 am ET with an hour-long pre-game show.)
12:00 pm ET - Switzerland vs. Finland - TSN2 (Canada).

Wish Russia-Sweden was on NHL Network-United States instead of Slovakia-Czech Republic. If you can't make it to a TV to watch Russia-Sweden and/or Canada-United States but you can listen - TSN Radio 1050 AM (out of Toronto) will have both games. You can also listen online at TSN.ca/radio - then click LISTEN LIVE under one of the cities. (I do know for sure Toronto will have both games on so click there first.)

Canada Rallies From Two-Goal Deficit To Beat Slovakia -
The Canadian Press - TSN Official Website - TSN.ca - Monday, December 30.

Malmo, Sweden - Nothing is easy for this Canadian team at the World Junior Championships. Jonathan Drouin redeemed himself after a bad penalty on his first shift by scoring the tying goal and Nic Petan rediscovered his scoring touch in time to get the game-winner and an empty-netter as Canada used a three-goal third period to down Slovakia 5-3 on Monday.

The win left Canada (2-0-1) two points behind the United States (3-0-0) heading into a showdown for first place in the last preliminary round game for both squads on Tuesday.hey'll need a regulation win to overtake the defending champion Americans, who eliminated Canada in the semifinals with a 5-1 win at last year's World Juniors in Ufa, Russia.

Rewatching some of the USA games. Really really like Eichel. He's the whole package, has the size, speed, hands, vision and compete. It wouldn't be heresy to suggest he could have a better NHL career than McDavid.

Other players that have been real standouts: Hudson Fasching and Martin Reway, both 4th rounders in 2013. Although, can't complain about Baptiste in the 3rd. At the draft I don't think you could project either guy above him or above any of our 2nds in retrospect. Fasching plays the exact heavy game that the Kings favor, and Reway looks like a clone of Briere.

If the Sabres can come out of the next two drafts with Reinhart and Eichel, the overhaul is pretty much complete. Elite #2 all-situation 200-foot center, and big-time #1 pivot. Just let 'em develop and take their place in the NHL when they're ready. If the Sabres land the 2015 #1 overall, it'd be really tempting if a team offered up an "instant rebuild" package for McDavid what like Lindros returned, and if the Sabres were still able to land Eichel. I wouldn't want to be the GM making that call.

We had a "fine start for Reinhart" but I'm getting a little worried with what Miller is doing. If he keeps it up, just move him out for anything, he's killing the franchise

Eichel would be a much bigger land than Reinhart although both would be a perfect compliment. I would be very much content with McCann/Bennett/Draisaitl/Dal Colle and Eichel
