I know. But they are rebuilding (though I do think keeping a good veteran defenseman around is vital so that you don't end up like Edmonton and their young guys have nobody to model themselves after) and a young asset or two could get it done

Don't be silly, look at what Phoenix has done when a real professional Coach in charge, now if your suggesting Dave Tippett take over then you've got my attention.

Problems:
-Left handed shot; could he play RD?
-Has NMC
-Currently Flames captain, probably not motivated to move

Burke allegedly really liked Gio from his time in Toronto.

So I cant see Burke moving that piece unless it really made sense for their franchise moving forward and thats not a deal Toronto is in a position to make.

Doesn't surprise me one bit. Every GM loves a workhorse defenseman.

Chuck.....something has to give with this team. What kind of avenues do you expect Nonis to explore? It seems the only real trade chip we have to play is Gardiner and that's been speculated by Dreger to be a piece Nonis would move for the right top6 forward (I'd assume a C?). How are we going to address the blueline?

-Franson isn't playing top4.
-Ranger and Fraser are absolute liabilites
-Gardiner is at opposite ends of the spectrum each and every shift.
-Rielly while good has made the expected rookie mistakes.

For these reasons I don't see how we can expect to find an internal solution and it looks like that's what the coaching staff has been trying to do but with no luck. Something major needs to happen to this blueline.

Our biggest movable pieces are Kulemin, McClement, Bernier/Reimer, and Raymond. And probably Gardiner too but I don't think thats a good move.

Surely a Raymond + Bernier/Reimer trade could fetch a solid Dman.

People seem to forget that we have the BEST AHL goalie right now. And he would be competing for starts IMO if we didnt have 2 goalies that are competing already IMO

I think you are playing a dangerous game if you trade either Bernier or Reimer at this point. They are one of a few sure things on this team right now

Being the best in the AHL is different than being adequate in the NHL. Mac needs to prove that he can be close to Bernier or Reimers level before I would move either. He needs experience in the NHL. Unfortunately, the only way he will get it is if either goalies get injured

He's put up very good numbers in the AHL for many years, this isn't new.

But he's not an NHL goalie and I can't see Nonis going with a Reimer/Bernier - MacIntyre tandem seeing as Reimer-Scrivens last year was too inexperienced and unreliable.

I can't see Nonis changing anything in the crease (and for good reason).

Even still if they get injured, he rides pine.

Mac played insanely good in exhibition(I know, its just exhibition).

Is it a gamble? Yes. Will it give us somethings to talk about for years to come? Yes. (Kessel trade)

Or hell, send Mac and Raymond and a 2nd somewhere and try and get a #3 D

I don't see Reimer ever being a true # 1 goalie. He's the type of goalie who looks great on a highlight reel but in reality only ends up there because of weaknesses in his game like poor rebound control that hasn't gotten better with time. His high glove hand also hasn't improved with time.
Yeah I figured you'd say say more or less that. You're probably right but I'd wait before deciding. The sample size on Bernier is still small. It would be easier to take the gamble if he always looked in control but he doesn't (though obv looks more in control than Reimer). If I had to decide today I would probably pick Bernier too for the reasons you gave but I wouldn't be very sure at all. It wouldn't shock me if Reimer ended up having a better career when it's all said and done.

Anyhow, luckily we don't have to decide now. I've been saying all along that I would happily wait until the trade deadline next year, by then the decision should be more clear.

The way we roll though, a couple of years from now Reimer (and Rask and Scrivens) will be playing lights out and Bernier will be either mediocre for us or asking to be traded.

I wonder what it's like being a sports fan in Boston or someplace. I'm so tired of this ****.

The thing you don't get is that a career AHL goalie isn't worth much on the trade front. Every team has them and with the availability of a guy like Peters (or Khudobin) there's not much incentive added by MacIntyre.

Damn, that's too bad. He'd be the perfect piece for this team. My thoughts would have been something like Franson + for Gio.

Personally, I look around the league and I can't think of anybody else we could get to plug that big hole. Girdardi I guess?

I would honestly try and move most if not all of our impending unrestricted free agents

Phaneuf, Raymond, McClement, Kulemin, Bolland, Fraser...Get some assets in return

Asset management wise, I think that's the way to go

Mark Fayne would be such a welcome addition to our blueline, but do we even have a 2014 2nd rounder?

I'm sure everyone in their right mind would trade Phaneuf for OEL. And I'm a Phaneuf supporter.
