Mayor will even be in attendance.

Perhaps it'll announce ground breaking?

Speculation is a hotel announcement as part of the arena development.

So did Edmonton end up bending over as much, compared to the amounts that people were laughing at months ago?

We'll find out. I was under the impression that only American cities gave outlandish subsidies to billionaires.

Canadian's aren't that stupid. Anyways we are too busy selling a large portion of our natural resources to foreign, non democratic countries!

The announcement will be the changing of Edmonton's slogan "City of Champions" to "Gretzky was here"

If you live long enough, you realize that there are stupid people everywhere, and if you're honest with yourself, you'll admit that for a smart person, you did some really dumb things yourself over that time.

true, we just build highways and large facilities with public money and them sell them to private companies for pennies on the dollar. yessir, we are much smarter up here.

re: the edmonton announcement, let's hope its a little more solid than markham's.

Agreed. Likley a date they'll break ground.

Perhaps, a naming rights agreement as well or will it just be Rexall something (arena, centre) anyways?

Maybe they're there to announce an increase in Rexalls prescription filling fees to finance a new owners lounge

Apparently it is naming rights... according to Twitter it will be Rogers.
Surprised as that is the Vancouver arena no?

There was a period of time that the Sharks played in "Compaq Center at San Jose" (to differentiate it with the one in Houston).

So, if naming rights, could be "Rogers Arena in Edmonton" or something.

Wow. Rogers is taking over the world, one Media Rights and Arena at a time.

Well Scotiabank had 2 at one time (Calgary & Ottawa), American Airlines has the rights in Dallas and Miami (maybe even Phoenix) after the US/AA Merger.

In a decade from now, we'll all be lacing up our skates to play a game of Rogers ball.

Sportsnet lost audio before they took the banner down. Classic.

What is the financial breakdown of the arena? How much is Katz paying, the city, the province, etc?

Except Toronto which would play in the Rogellbaum Centre (Rogers Bell Tannenbaum, the owners of the team)
