As far as this potential trade goes, I can see McGinn being included. Lots of potential but has fallen off the wayside in Colorado.
Fallen off the way side by needing less than 80 games with the team to score over 20 goals? McGinn has just continued developing for the Avs. It's why he did so well with Duchene and Parenteau last year and so well with MacKinnon at the start of this season.

Apply Dater jinx to trade rumors and we see McGinn and Stastny signing extensions in the next month or two.

It's definitely not Landeskog or Duchene.

If we wanted Subban we'd probably have to part with ROR and a couple 1st's and maybe the Habs would give him up due to "tension between the sides." Subban is probably the ideal piece for the Avs that could allow them to make that next push into contention, plus Roy isn't afraid of doing whatever it would take to win.

So a 4 vs 2 deal makes no sense. We have enough #4-6 Dman and enough 4th liners...

I don't want Subban for obvious reasons. He is not worth the pieces we would have to give up for him. Atleast not for me.

Duchene , Landy and Mac are completely off the table for him.

The only reason he would get moved is if there are problems between him and management. Than we probably could see something around him for ROR+. But I doubt that it would make sense for MTL.

McGinn for Gorges maybe?
Stastny ( with MTL being allowed to talk contract before the trade) for MaxPac?

I don't know. Seems very far fetched. And the 2 for 4 information completely exposes this rumor. It makes no sense at all...

if you want a player like Subban, there wont be any untouchables on your team. For Subban, one of Duchene , Landy or Mac would be involved.

Of our top young forwards he'd be more likely to be moved than all of them (O'Reilly aside since he can't be traded). I don't think he will be, but he'd certainly go before Duchene or Landeskog or O'Reilly.

I could see the Avs sending Stastny and McGinn, and asking for Leblanc, Beaulieu, Gorges, and 1 other...if it is indeed 4 for 2.

There's definitely a positive version of all the events, that the extension was all business and both sides were happy, and that all the fights within the team are just blown out of proportion too. The Habs are a competitive team and so everyone is usually happy to stay put.

It's just that there's an equal possibility of a negative version of events. There could be a lot of resentment and mistrust there, and I could see Subban taking a hard line on his next extension to stick it to management. Where there's smoke there's usually fire.

I love how the deal is "imminent" but then they say that it could happen anywhere from mid december to mid january.

The Avs don't need to make any major deals to be contenders in two years.

Doesn't do much for Colorado. Gorges and Markov are the two guys that make any sense in a deal around McGinn for Colorado.

Avs have indicated they want to get bigger. I doubt they'd want someone under 6' tall.

I've got my eyes on Parenteau and McGinn and perhaps Markov coming back the other way with god knows what. I suspect Moen will be in there. Maybe Canadiens are trying to unload DD with a prospect...

The only way the Habs would be interested to acquire Stastny is to play with Pacioretty. A center would have to go the other way.

McGinn+ for Gorges is intriguing but only if the Habs have another trade in place to bring in a top 4 defenseman.

Habs untouchable : Subban, Price, Gallagher, Galchenyuk, Pacioretty, Prust, Markov and probably Emelin.

Avs untouchable : Duchene, O'Reilly, Landeskog, Mackinnon, Johnson, Varlamov

====

Montreal might have : Eller, Plekanec, Briere, Gionta, Desharnais, Bourque, Gorges, Diaz, Murray available + all the garbage

Colorado might have : Stastny, McGinn, Parenteau, Barrie, + all the garbage

====

Habs need : 1st-2nd line scoring winger. and/or a number 5dman.
Avs need : top4 dman. And maybe a new goalie (if Varlamov is sent in jail )

I dont see them as good trading partner.

His point was we'd rather just not have Subban than trade one of the untouchable 3 for him.

Stastny + ?

for

Diaz + Beaulieu + ? + ?

Ignoring your Varlamov portion, I see a good partner if you're willing to part with Markov. I think PAP is expendable because Stastny looks better under Roy and fits your need of a 2nd line scoring winger, maybe first depending on chemistry.

Since habs fans are having so much fun with trades that ignore colorado's needs. How about we reverse that and propose Staz, McGinn, Wilson and Parenteau for Pleks, MaxPac and Markov

Markov is pretty unlikely to be traded considering how well he's played and his role on the team. Only way I see him moved is if he has indicated he wont resign in Montreal (or will test the market) or for an overpayment, which Parenteau is not.
