Bishop for Couts was close

With Couts playing so well lately I figured now would be a good time to post this;

See section 3 of the following article;

Senators wanted him, no indication the Flyers were going to give him up.

I don't believe it but, ya never know...

Also:

The other significant goalie who moved at the deadline was the aforementioned Steve Mason who only cost the Flyers a third-round pick to acquire.
How did they forget about the great Michael Leighton? Biggest mistake this franchise ever made was getting rid of him. The guy was just heating up.

I remember Anthony San Filippo shooting this rumor down when Bishop was traded. He said the Flyers were interested in Bishop but absolutely not at the cost of Couturier.

I think its possible that this was closer than we think. Maybe not as close as what this guy is saying, but I don't doubt that this was discussed or even considered by the Flyers. I think it likely woudn't have been straight up, which is the real reason if you ask my why this deal didn't go down.

Prolly every GM in the league wanted and wants Coots...the only people that don't are the ones on the main board saying he is overrated and not worth the 8th selection...

The article indicates that it was more than just Ottawa wanting Couturier. Obviously you have to take it with a grain of salt, but my guess is there were discussions and Homer probably asked for more than just Bishop (perhaps one or both of the guys later traded for Bobby Ryan).

Well Nashville wanted him for Weber....Phoenix wanted him for Yandle, Anaheim for Ryan..etc etc

That's a complete BS rumor. I bet the Flyers called about Bishop but when Coots name came the conversation ended. That would've been a horrible trade for us.

Indeed.

What annoys me more the bonehead beat reports is bonehead analysts and commentators who get paid more and are clueless. Half the time I watch an NFL game I'm yelling at the announcers that they're wrong. Like c'mon man, you have to at least know the rules.

I doubt the trade was ever that close.

Doesn't fit Homer's MO at all, IMO. He's loathe to give up the Flyers drafted and developed forwards early in their careers and he doesn't like to give up a lot for a goalie (he was doing Snider's bidding on the Bryz contract).

complete BS

I bet it wasnt even close. Flyers probably called and asked what they wanted for him, and when Murray said Couturier, Homer probably laughed and hung up

No, I'm saying the Flyers wanted more, not the Sens. Not sure what obviously, but that is my guess. Homer probably called about Bishop (or Lehner), Ottawa GM probably said Couturier, and Homer probably asked for more. I could definitely see him being interested in either goalie and being willing to move Couturier if the Sens added more.
