Beach is big and extremely good at pissing other players off but he's a **** fighter--so he's not really a goon. Mashinter would kick his ass just about every time. Like a bigger version of Avery in the agitation sense but Avery could at least fight well for his weight class and Sean was a respectably talented player.

This is a very good trade.

Mashinter has zero upside. He is at best a 4th line if he ever makes the NHL.

Beach still does have a little upside. He may just need a change of scenery and to refocus. So you give up nothing for the potential of something. Thats always a good trade.

Beach jumped a little guy from Norway named Olimb in camp a couple of years ago and hurt him quite badly (shoulder or something). Tried to pass it off as defending himself or some crap like that but most observers thought it was pretty cheap. This year he was sent over to Sweden from Rockford, was at the center of something over there, and sent right back after 2-3 weeks. Details were scant, but it sounded like more of the same. His stock has been falling without interruption since mid-way through his draft year in 2008. I have nothing against the Rangers, but I would be shocked if he didn't wear out his welcome pretty quickly. He is a goof.

Actually, sounds like he'll be a fan favorite around here.

Beach is a scrub and a bust at this point. Doubt we'll ever see him up here.

Oh well, I liked Mash, thought he had some potential to be a useful 4th liner when he learns to skate.

I am kind of looking forward to fans of other teams calling him "Kyle B****" if he's a useful agitator for us, not gonna lie

The more I'm looking at this the more I'm beginning to think Sather is grasping at straws. Sounds like Beach may not be any kind of upgrade over Mash.

But the Rangers need to add some toughness with upside. A head case like this guy may not have been the place to start.

I don't see it, Pizza. They took a flyer on Mash last year, didn't see any progress and don't need him in the minors (HFD is plenty tough enough), so they traded him for another longshot. It's not indicative of an ironclad master plan or grasping at straws; it's just a deal around the edges. Can't draw any real conclusions from it. Best case, you get a useful agitator. Worst case, you traded a guy who had been evaluated and found wanting for another guy who will be evaluated and found wanting.

Pretty lateral move. I do think that Beach has a higher ceiling than Mash though, so I'll take that. In terms of probability of becoming an NHL player? Mash might have Beach there right now.

Maybe a change of organization will do the kid good

Best of luck to Mash!

Yes, i remember that

Unless i am mistaken, you can see it here. And yes, he is obviously only defending himself...lol (Beach is in white, if anyone was wondering). This is the second time they fight in that game.

Olimb is 5'10"
Beach is 6'3"

Result of that was that Olimb dislocated his shoulder, and was sidelined for 4 months. Beach apparently told nhl.com that he got a short temper because he didnt score a goal (or something like that).

They are both at the Blackhawks prospect camp, so both are "on the same team".. i guess Zucc should grow eyes in the back of his head for the next team practice

Horrible trade in my eyes. All of the Mashinter bashers obviously have not watched him play more than his 5 mins max ice time up with the Rangers. Where is this offensive upside some are talking about?
Mash's stats from the AHL:
282 gp
65 goals
69 assists
134 points
.475 points per game

Beach's stats from the AHL:
169 gp
41 goals
36 assists
77 points
.455 points per game

The most goals Beach ever scored in a season is 16 in the AHL, Mash's best 22. I tell you another thing too, you think crazy is good. Beach is a dirty agitator who time and time again gets his bell rung in scraps. A notorious bad teammate that has been suspended by his own team in the past as well as a suspension for firing a puck into the crowd after a game. Google this guy, if you're impressed by what you see you're as much of a clown as he is. He's awesome at taking runs at Europeans who are half his size. Mash got suspended once in the OHL for taking his helmet off to fight the day David Branch put the rule into effect. His opponent did the same and they both gave each other a pat on the back after a stellar tilt. Go to hockeyfights and look at both players scraps on there and hands down Mash is the better fighter. All the best to Mashinter moving on. He's a class act, doesn't deserve to be judged on 5 minutes a night in the NHL. We'll see where each of these guys end up. Let's hope this organization makes a real move for a legitimate tough guy. We need it. I agree Mash is not at the point where he was going to be the savior in this category at this point in his career, we have to do something NOW, instead of a trade that does zero to help us in the now.

Can add the Aliu/Beach incident that got both thrown off the Hogs a few years back as well

I wanted to like Beach but the guy was a tool and the Olimb garbage was last straw for me and many of his defenders. His horrendous defensive effort and no show offensive play in AHL further showed he was complete waste of pick

At this point I am shocked the Hawks got anything for him as no one wanted Beach when he was on waivers a few weeks back.

But a headcase that fights is what makes or breaks this team according to some.

Which is what I said.... I was just saying all the complaints sound similar ....Avery was 26/27 when we got him.... and most def had established himself already.... but all the talk of how bad a person etc etc is very familiar

Good trade. No risk, possible reward type of deal. Kid is a bit of loose cannon out there, has some of those old school rat qualities about him.

Unfocused and undisciplined is the continuing commentary on him, but he is a big right handed agitator type. He has a little bit of Sean Avery/ Brad Marchand in him, and that's not a negative if he's liked off the ice like Avery was and Marchand is, but I like this trade quite a bit.

Great asset management, get something from Mashinter, and it's a 23 year old 1st round pick that fills a need. What this does is allows the Rangers to call up McIrath and have someone do the heavy lifting down in Hartford and learn the system.

If it works, and by works I mean giving better minutes than Mash, and Beach battles and shows the willingness to step up, then great; If it doesn't then cut your losses a few months down the line.

We needed the roster space, I guess. So rather than just claim him, we gave you guys a waste of space for your waste of space.
