Young or Reynolds for 3rd base. Tanaka. Johan Santana to a minor league deal. Done.
Supposedly Yanks only offered Reynolds a minor-league deal, so he turned it down. I think if we wind up with Tanaka, we won't add any infielders. Maybe if we don't, we sign one and then sign a Balfour or Santana.

Im sure Balfour's physical terminating his deal in principle with the O's is a major factor.

Get him on a cheap, one year deal. Perfect for us.

Balfour was a physical away from two years and $15M. He'll probably wait until spring training to see if a market develops for him, when other guys hurt themselves or report with preexisting injuries. A cheap one year deal will be there for him in a couple months. He doesn't need to rush.

If A-Rod doesn't win in court, he needs to buy season tickets in those front row seats that nobody will buy and show up at every game.

I wouldn't put it past him.

That would be perfect. Still a joke he got 162 games. Show us his failed drug test and give him 50 games.

But the suspension isn't based on a failed drug test.

Correct. It's based on the covering up etc...? But where is the precedent for it. That 211 games cut to 162. How do you get those numbers. I understand it's a full season but still. What makes it that. Just seems like Selig going on a power trip here, like when Goodell was making up all these different suspension rules as he went.

That is what I don't like. The number. He deserves to be suspended as a facilitator but 211? 162? How do you come up with those numbers when he did not test positive. Either he was clean enough or the MLB's drug testing is crap. Most he should have gotten was 100. ARod has made a mistake going after Michael Weiner. It is Selig who has decided to do whatever he wants. A clear power trip. Last year as commissioner. Rules are in place under the JDA. First offense is 50 games. Second is 100. ARod gets 211, only to be reduced to 162.

All is quiet before the storm. Yankees news has been limited. Hot stove tonight on yes network at 6:30. Tanaka or bust.

The Dodgers' tv deal is worth $7 billion: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/0...n_2570677.html

Contrastingly, YES is valued at $3 billion according to this: http://www.dailyfinance.com/2012/11/...ollar-tv-deal/

The Dodgers also don't seem to care about the luxury tax in the slightest.

All reports have them still in the hunt:

If you're hoping for the Dodgers to suddenly run out of money, then you're going to be hoping for a while. Plus, they have $24.75 million coming off the books after this year in the form of Beckett and Billingsley.

Obviously I'm not expecting them to run out of money.. Do I think they will approach a 300M payroll?.. no I dont.. no matter how much money they have.. nor would I expect the Yankees to ever come near that level either. With Tanaka the Dodgers would be at 260M+ straight payroll, 300M when you factor in everything else, and they don't need him. agreed about Beckett and Billingsley, but Hanley's extension will take up the majority of that.

The Metsies signed John Lannan to a minor league deal. I had absolutely been hoping for that. If he can get back to the level he was at a couple years ago, he's a decent back-end guy.

I don't really care enough about the Dodgers to continue this argument, but they aren't acting like a team that's running up against its payroll ceiling. I am curious to know what this crazy offer the Cubs reportedly have out there is.

That's a lot of coin for an unproven pitcher.

the Yankees payroll is actually about 30M less than last season. They did actually go down in payroll (so far).

Rosenthal said the Yankees are going to go after a reliever and a 3rd baseman.

I see Balfour (I don't think Rodney is a fit there, despite having less injury problems) and Young or Stephen Drew at 3rd. I'm fine with that.

This is true.

The only thing that disappoints me is not being able to keep Cano due to the luxury tax, but they went over it anyway for Tanaka. Why even bother with the tax cap in the first place then if the plan was to surpass it?
