Problem with those kinds of hits is that the skater is coming in with his head way down. Bertuzzo is a tall guy and the guy comes right at him.
It's definitely a hit to the head but what's the guy supposed to do? Really tough to police those kinds of hits. We saw that earlier this month with a hit by Emelin on Cooke. Guy comes in low... of course its going to hit the head.

leaf commentators had Bortuzzo suspended before he got to the penalty box
The game of hockey is at a cross road. Players are bigger, faster, more lethal than ever before. Body checking has always been an art but it seems that something has to be done about some types of hits that are borderline legal.
I am not a fan of hitting players that can't protect themselves. Watching the Steeler game last night, a Steeler absolutely wiped out the punter with a block, broke his jaw! cracked a vertebrae. Did not need to happen.
Hockey has to protect the game by doing something about hits that knock players out. It seems every game someone is knocked out of a game with a concussion.
I wonder how the Leafs manage to begin every single season so strongly to just slowly slide to the bottom just in time for Christmas. Every single year it's the same thing, they are really consistent. We got to give them that.
