With the flexibility they have cap wise and the fact that they look to be a legitimate contender, I see the Habs pushing hard for Spezza if he's made available. As much as I hate the Canadiens as a Bruins fan, it's a fanbase and organization that jizzes its pants for finesse and/or fast offensive players whenever available. No doubt they'd be willing to trade some future to land that name.

Personally, I'm rooting against it.

The problem is that there isn't a player on the team not named Subban that would interest the Sens.

Good job OP.

You really sold people on how good Spezza is, which he really isn't, and are getting some good offers.

My suggestion is for people in Toronto to get in a car right now (1 hour from now too late), drive to the nearest Canadian Tire Centre arena, and see Spezza and the Leafs. Tickets are a lot cheaper than you might expect for a Leafs game, and you can save bad-mouthing Spezza until the post game.

I'd like to think after the Ben Bishop trade, that Ottawa has learned their lesson about dealing the best player in the deal to a division rival.

Spezza gets traded where he wants, if at all.

NTC without restrictions - if I am reading it correctly - isn't going to return a premium.

1st + blue chip prospect would be about the value.

Despite a bad start, I'm not ready to give up on Spezza. People forget that he's one of 5 active players to be in the top 50 in PPG in the history of the game.

He will get it together.

I could actually see it happening. And it would be ugly in the press!

Spezza is great, and would fit well in T.O but I would not want to give up the "young" talent that Ottawa would want in return. Spezza is a Toronto boy too... would be nice. Just won't happen.

I could see a deal around Bogosian, but I'm not sure why Petan adds much intrigue to the deal for Ottawa (no sure bet at all there) and the 1st being protected is kind of a joke. You're getting Jason Spezza...

Add to that Wiercioch and the deal is heaviliy, heavily favored in Winnipeg's direction. I say that as a big Bogosian fan too, but it looks like a dream deal for Winnipeg only.

Yeah, that's a good point. Habs are always willing to throw draft picks around (I guess I'm referring to Gainey era FO and should look more closely at MTL's current FO) but even with that there isn't enough in terms of intriguing prospects. There's Galchenyuk and Gallagher but I don't think MTL is dumb enough to go there.

Probably better for the Habs anyway. All I hear about is a "big splash" the fans want them to make, but that seems totally unnecessary with the shape they're in now. Smaller, sure-up moves would seem to be the better option for them, but the memories of greats has forever infested their minds with fantasies of landing as many coast-to-coast dominating forwards as possible.

Spezza would be exactly what EDM needs to compliment RNH.
What would you want and don't say Hall, RNH, Eberl,Perron or Nurse.

We have Yak, Gagner and Picks

I think Yak is worth more than Spezza because of age.

Unless the ownership situation in Ottawa has changed, then how is there even any discussion about retaining salary?

1st would be top 10 protected with option to switch to 2015. I'm completely unbiased I was trying to fill both teams need, I guess I'm particularly high on Nic Petan who had an outstanding training camp, and I value Bogo as a #1 D.

Spezza is exactly what the Oilers do not need.

Jason Spezza + conditional pick for Eric Gelinas + Adam Henrique + conditional pick.

Condition is Ottawa has the right to swap 1st round picks with New Jersey in 2014 or 2015 if they so chose.

A pretty hefty return IMO.

1st + top prospect + young roster defenseman + young roster forward
