Could this team make the playoffs?

Could this team make the playoffs?
It's about the way I expect the roster will turn out.

Hecht-Briere-Dumont
Vanek-Drury-Grier
Kotalik-Roy-Afinogenov
Pyatt-Taylor-Mair

Kalinin-Talinder
Mckee-Patrick
Campbell-Fitzpatrick-Jillson

Biron
Miller

It Leaves only 2 of Ruffs Doghouse boys. Max and Ales.

About a 22 million payroll?

No, But a tandem of Noronen and Miller with a Zhitnik on the blueline could.

I hope there would be no draft lottery in that scenario.

In a word, no.

Marty has proved he can not carry a team all the way. I'd rather take the chance with Mika starting, and Miller backing up. It may not work, but it beats going with a guy that is known not to work. Both guys have great potential, Mika has enough experience to at least make a case for himself, and we'd be getting the payroll down to $20m.

And on top of that, the D is frightening. Campbell, Fitzpatrick and maybe even Patrick should not be playing a regular NHL role. McKee is not the force he used to be, and ideally is your 5th man. Tallinder and especially Jillson have potential, but both are risky. I do like what i've seen out of Jillson though for the most part. Hes just got to pull it all together.

And if that weren't enough, we lack a scorer up front. Hecht-Briere-Dumont is a great line, but they can't carry a team, and not one of those guys are game breakers. Grier is just not a top six forward, pure and simple. And we would be expecting a lot out of Vanek straight away. Pyatt needs to prove himself, and with our forward crop, or at least, potential forward crop, should not be in the team. Kotalik on the 4th is a waste of an asset. Gaustad should center the 4th.

It's not the Lineup I would have. Its what I percieve it will be.

I prefer Mika to Marty. But next to Satan, I think Mika is the next deepest in Ruffs doghouse.Mika will be gone. With maybe Max next after that.

I think Ruffs coment "the team needs to be, a team of Hardworking 2 way players"

Tells miles of where this roster is going.

Expect the return of CUBRO?

All this talk about Ruff's doghouse...ruff is mr. defense first, why is no one talking about him being woefully inadequate as a head coach in this new league

if buffalo cuts loose miro and zhitnik and signs nobody of influence, this team will be buried even deeper between the cleat spikes of the bills

id give that team virtually no chance of making the playoffs
they either need to make improvements on the blueline or in goal

Honestly, what could you have "seen" from Jillson that makes him anything more than a fringe NHL'ER. he's Jason Wooley without the Jason or the Wooley.

I think I just threw up in my mouth after seeing that lineup. Regier and Quinn have both been saying '28-29 million', why would they lie to all the fans and leave 7 million unspent? You also forgot about Connolly.

Yup. The more I think about it, the more we need A LOT of help on our blueline. And, I think it's going to cost us a lot more than we have to work with.

If you guys can't see the potential in Jilson, then you simply dont know the game of ice hockey. Admittedly, he has a way to go but anyone that big that skates that well with that heavy a shot and good head manning skills is an asset not to give up on too quickly especially in the new "game" of speed with no two line offsides. If he is simply allowed to play through his mistakes (to a point as veterans are allowed to) I suspect we will see a 10 to 12 goals a yr D with 20-30 assists....He isn't physical down low and probably won't ever be, but the only way to move most of this guys is to cross check em anyway and then the fans are screaming about the repetitive short handed situations.....the difficulty in the maturation of two way defenders is second only to goaltending...stay at homers just about cross the red line, offensive guys are seldomly castigated for giving up the odd man rush because they are productive...so few can play it both ways....we only got glimpse last year at the tail end......I'll take that intensity and team play any day, question is, is it good enough to finally get into the playoffs in a tough division. My sense is there is not enough scoring up front unless Vanek plays lights out to overcome the perceived weak D corps and still questionable goaltending. One thing we know, no team can afford to come out of this gate lethargic and find themselves behind early on.....will be interesting to say the least
