Leafs Clean House

Yes, another one. With the contractual situations and team as a whole I don't think this team is going anywhere, Bob McCown said today he'd keep 5 or 6 players and I agree. Value may be off, bear with me I'm just spit balling. First off, fire Carlyle then...

To Winnipeg:
Phaneuf (500k retained)
Reimer
Brown
4th

To Toronto:
2014 1st
Michael Frolik
2nd
-gets Winnipeg a guy who has been shaky as of late, but was a very good goalie last season and early this season as well as creates a good top pairing in Phaneuf and Bogosian. Leafs get a lottery pick and a solid 2nd/3rd line Forward.

To Buffalo:
Clarkson (750k retained) or Clarkson 20% and Gardiner to Dallas for Chiasson
Gardiner

To Toronto:
Stewart with small + (i know these are both loooooong shots but I just want Clarkson gone)

To Vancouver:
Kadri

To Toronto:
Tanev
3rd
-Leafs get young top 4 D, Canucks get young top six forward and call up Corrado)

To Phoenix:
Lupul
2nd
3rd

To Toronto:
Yandle
-Leafs get a #1 D, Phoenix gets picks and a guy who has proven he can play top line when healthy

Had to give it a shot, maybe someday Garth Snow or George McPhee will decide he's a star and deal for him. That 4th line play is worth NEARLY 5.25 million

Yeah because the isles have such deep pockets, they just toss money around . Reckless spenders

Counter offer:

To Buffalo: Clarkson (50% retained) + 2015 1st round pick

To Toronto: Future considerations

That is likely Clarkson's value.

And I'm not even sure that percentage is allowed.

Yes, Lupul's overall production is about what we'd want in a return for Yandle, but his salary + especially that injury history knocks it down quite a few pegs, and he's not getting any younger. 2nd and 3rd certainly don't close the gap. No dice.

As much as I would love the Yandle trade value-wise, the last thing we need is another offensive defenseman.

It would mean Gardiner's gone, hopefully to move Clarkson's salary as i proposed...

I don't think Winnipeg would do that. They really don't need a 7 million defenseman when they have Bogo, Enstrom, Trouba, Buff. If their first is being moved I'd think they wanted a good forward coming back. I can see them trading for Reimer though and trying him out for a couple years.

Pretty sure they're sticking with Buff as a forward, and Phaneuf would be 6.5 and would give them a very nice top 4.

It's really that hard to look at the isles league low budget, their spending habits? Their search for team friendly contract bargains, then look at Clarkson's deal to determine whether it is the style of contract, they have shown a willingness to go for?

Those are some pretty bad deals, man.

Clarkson isn't movable. Unless you retain half his cap hit, it's just not going to happen. Sit back and hope he improves.

Phaneuf is a tough nugget to trade. Massive cap hit and play that doesn't live up to it. Can't see a lot of teams lining up to acquire his services, let alone giving up solid assets to land him.

Lupul and scraps does not get you Yandle.

Kadri for Tanev makes a lot of sense both ways, and I'm ok with Van adding a 3rd rounder to balance it out.

I'd argue that Kadri has as much value as Kesler. So you must really think the world of Tanev.

See, as a Nucks fan, I totally see where you're coming from. I can really understand the argument that Kadri has value close to Kesler. Not saying that I agree, but I get the reasoning.

That said, Tanev's value is right there with Kadri's. He's a fantastic defensive dman.

You can't be serious. Kid is ridiculously overrated, Kadri is a productive, 23 year old center with a lot of talent and upside, and, somehow, he's worth less than a 24 year old stay at home defenseman? ****ing ROFL, take off the blinders.

Tanev is quite easily a top-four player right now. He's tracking to be a Dan Hamhuis type top-pair player. He was the Canucks best defenseman this season. Very reliable, no mistakes, always in position, can move the puck, can skate and excellent on the PK.

Only thing not there yet is offense. But it's coming and we saw flashes this season.

Personally, his level of play is barely a notch below someone like Faulk. I'd easily take Tanev over players like Bogosian or Gudbranson who are perceived to have more value.

I think you need to learn a bit more about Tanev.

As for the proposal in the OP, I actually like Kadri. He really is one of the Leafs better players and someone they should keep. Just Carlyle is an idiot. But I'd still rather have Tanev than Kadri. Only way I would consider moving Tanev is in a package for a young, first-line player: If there were another Seguin available.
