i truly think we are arguying for his value. of course we wanna keep him.
what would you guys think of a long term contract in around 3.75millions-4 millions. id go with it anytime. but i think that 4.6 for one year could be really benefic for our team this year. he would be a wall to get a new contract. but big money for long term? no way, he did it to us once and he wont do it twice.

Carolina would jump at that and laugh at us for years to come. Irbe is as worthless as they come, he is the definition of deadwood while Eric Cole has not progressed.
If we're to trade Theodore, I would expect a few above average quality players.

WOW!....you made my day!

lol
sorry

Anyways, Theodore is a little overpayed but Gainey can't really fic those past mistakes. He gave the minimum he could give and now lets hope Theo signs without any complaints.

May I just say that Theo one great season isn't worth a lifetime of great rewards. I want to keep him, but lets see if he can continue the high level play. How about just offering 3mill plus incentives-which if achieved would reach 4.3 mil?
It's not like he is heading for the HOF like Brodeur definately is.

I'm glad they locked Theo up. I thought 4.5 was the upward limit, but I can live with 4.6. He is the backbone of our franchise and one of the top 5, if not top 3, goalies in the league, IMO.

We didn't really lock him up. It was a qualifying offer. We still own his rights but we might have to higher our offer to get him.

What he said. But with that said, Theodore is still one of the better young goalies out there and, while probably overpaid, what's our GM to do? We have no other goalie in the system who can take over the #1 job, and it's not like there are a lot of star goaltenders who are both available and willing to sign with us for substantially less.

I think Theo knows that with the new offer, he is getting paid very well. The pendulum is swinging back to a little sanity, and the offer is very good, but not out of wack like his last. He's a top 10 goaltender that puts up with a lot in Montreal when it comes to the media and fan criticism. The offer is good, and I think very fair, and I can't complain with this offer like I did with his last contract.

I hope this is not just a starting offer for Theodore but rather a final offer.

Theo and his scum agent Meehan better not hold out and ask for the world. 4.6M is perfectly reasonable for both sides. I'd rather see him prove himself to be a more consitent goalie before we offer that kind of money to him but it ain't too bad.

I'm worried about what's happening between Ryder and the habs. Why is there no mention of him getting a qualifying offer ? There seemed to be problems with signing him last summer. I hope this is not more of the same BS.

I think Ryder wants to see what Ribs will get this year.

Am I the only one here who thinks Theo might take less than the Q if he gets a multi-year deal? It's not all that uncommon a thing to happen, didn't Bonk sign for less than his Q? I guess it would depend if Theodore wants to stay in Montreal, or if he really wants to try the market for max $$$.

That's too much for Theo. He doesn't deserve that much, until he becomes consistent. Hes a great goaltender, but hes way to inconsistent. At max, id say 3.5-4 mill. No more, not yet anyways.....

Ribs is a good deal is a good one. Not sure about long term though, but it seems Gainey has faith or trust in him.

Yup I think that's what Dom Hasek ended up doing if I'm not mistaken. 1.5 roughly instead of about 2.3 or something??
