No thanks. I'd be reluctant to move Edler for Spezza straight up, to be honest, when you factor in age and contract status.

Spezza scored in the shootout tonight, and we won the game, so it's an easy no from the Sens.
Ask again after a loss in which Spezza is held off the scoresheet, and I'm sure you'll get a much warmer reception.

Edler would be good for them. Him and Karlsson would be a great pairing for a long time but if we had Spezza It'd be Sedin, Spezza, Kesler and Horvat as capable centers. Gaunce and Schroeder would be redundant. Add in the first I think it's fair considering the talent of Spezza but also factoring in age and contract.

Sedin Sedin Kassian
Shinkaruk Spezza Kesler
Higgins Horvat Burrows

Would be a stud lineup going forward.

Don't think we should be targeting a centerman anymore. Not only do they generally come at a higher price, but Kesler is just a better fit in the middle rather than trying to force him onto the wing, and he is really playing well in his old role as 2nd line center. With Horvat looking like he will be getting a spot on this team as soon as next season, I don't think this is a good long term move for the Canucks. If you can find a comparable elite winger that would be a good fit with the twins, that would be a bigger need IMO.

I'd rather try to acquire someone like Vanek who wouldn't cost Edler

Sedin-Sedin-Kassian
Shinakruk-Kesler-Vanek
Higgins-Horvat-Burrows

would also be a stud lineup moving forward, and wouldn't cost a borderline #1 defenseman signed at a reasonable cap hit long term. And I like Vanek's chances of being an impact player long term better than Spezza's.

Spezza is signed for just one year longer. With either player re-signing them is a must.

Ill post what I did on the Nucks board:

This ain't 2005. No way no how a team is moving 4 premium pieces for a 31 year old wonky backed Spezza on a one year deal.

I'd love to have Spezza, but at this point, all things considered, Edler + Jensen + 2nd is as far as I'd go.

Exactly. Edler + 2nd is as much as I'd want to give for spezza.

The OP could get a much better younger cheaper fwd.

Edler for Spezza straight up. I'd be willing to add another small piece like a 2nd or Grenier or something. But that's it.

Lol, there is a new Vancouver thread on trying to get Spezza everyday and apparently the value decreases the newer they get. Who is the guy above that said his cap hit is an issue, lol. He's making 4 mil in actual dollars. That's dream money for what he brings.

You want Spezza? Start with Kesler or Edler+Horvat or we ain't talking.

we only have ourselves to blame for Spezza appearing in trades, and unlike the Sens who value actual dollars, competitive teams are rightfully concerned about managing caphits.

If a package of Edler+1st+ something like Schroeder/Grenier gets it done, sign me up.

I've said before, i'd think long and hard if a package of Horvat+Tanev was what it took.

1st line Centers don't grow on trees.
