Booth to Buffalo

Is David Booth still not living up to his contract in Vancouver? Haven't been keeping tabs on him this season, by any means. But I know he has been seen as greatly overpaid, and Buffalo will be needing to reach the cap floor next season. What would it take to acquire him from Vancouver? And would the Canucks be willing to throw in an extra prospect in the trade?

Retain 50%, and he might be worth a 2nd.

Buffalo's 2nd is too high, so a buffalo 3rd (60-70)

He's been playing fairly well over the last few weeks, as of now, the Canucks will probably just keep him and see how free agency plays out first, if he continues to improve at the rate he has, it could be a mistake to deal him for a 7th before we know if he can be replaced

As of now, the Canucks would be interested in a 2nd line winger with finish and would be able to add to get a deal done

I doubt they will give up something to get rid of him if they can amnesty him in the summer

Buffalo should be fine next year with reaching the floor---the bigger problem time will be in 15/16. If they compliance buy out Leino then they will need to sign another higher paid vet.

Booth as a cap dump is worth no more than a 4th.

Sounds like they could use Gleason or Ruutu...

He's been playing fairly well for us lately, don't think too many would view him as having "negative value" anymore. Still an overpaid player but he won't be just dumped without a plan of a replacement player coming in.

You can have him for pretty much anything. A 4th would be nice to replace the one we traded to Carolina, but I don't think we're picky.

Ruutuu or Desharnais--sure

Gleason is a Dman--they dont need Dmen--especially one on a contract for 2 more years.

Yeah no.

Only way he's going to Buffalo is with a pick and with Buffalo sending back a useless minor league contract.

Booth is yours for any kind of asset. We're not retaining salary though. We can compliance him if we need to.

This. Effectively turning Vanek into Booth + 1st + 1st + 2nd. Not a bad return at all IMO.

At the moment IMHO if Vancouver want to dump booth with out retaining the salary they have to add a 6th or 7th rd pick. Why Buffalo pay him to do nothing and lose their pick too?

This is the only thing that makes sense. Booth's been playing better and Vancouver has the cash to compliance him in the offseason if they wish. The idea of bringing him in straight up only makes sense to Buffalo if they take on an asset for the trouble and Vancouver doesn't seem that desperate. As more or less neutral-value salary going back the other way as part of a trade for one of Buffalo's vets, it works out for both parties.

Is contract won't look bad come September. Wait till you see the contracts that get handed out this summer with the cap going up.

Yeah, i really don't understand why it would be 'difficult' to reach the cap floor for a team like Buffalo who have an owner willing to spend some money.

For a team like the Isles who are looking for loopholes and workarounds to the cap floor, sure that's trickier. But for the Sabres...just blow a wad of cash on some 'veteran FAs' on shorter deals and call it a day. Cap Floor reached.

But if Buffalo really are interested in Booth in particular, i'd be down for a Booth for Stafford swap. Doesn't progress them much towards the 'cap floor', but if they like Booth more than various cash wasting exercises in UFA, and want to ditch Stafford, i'd give it a go.

Booth has basically zero value, so any asset would be worth it.
Or booth as part of a package for a roster player...

Came in here to post exactly this: Booth + VAN 1st for Ott or Moulson. I'd take the mid-1st for either and Booth could be our overpaid filler for next year as we pursue another high pick.
