I still remember the Wilson / Magnuson fight like it was yesterday. Keith wanted no part of Big Behn, but once Wilson started yelling in his face he had no choice but to fire away. I still have my Blackhawk's jersey(red) I picked up in Doug Laurie's store in Toronto. I think they are the best looking jersey in the NHL. Anyway, I have my fingers crossed about this game and hope that our 1st line shows up.
Pete... yeah Behn Wilson was an interesting character. Studied pre-med, law and business courses. Was into Shakespearean acting, too. He had legal problems back in the late 90s. He was enigmatic to say the least.
Honestly, Im not even pissed anymore about that. It was 4 years ago but it feels even longer, especially since our team is drastically different now.
It's more of a reminder of how different the team is and how much worse it seems compared to then. Back then we had a younger Timonen, Pronger, Richards, Carter, Gagne (even if he was on the downswing), etc. Now our top six is a mess aside from Giroux and our best players are Couturier and Mason. I got nothing wrong with those two players, but Mason is far from proven who we got in the bargain bin from Columbus and Couturier is like 20 and still developing. Rarely should you be saying two players like that are your best players.
It's also a reminder of being one Leighton away from winning a Cup and also the fact that the guy we lost out on in the draft lottery ended up being a big factor and series clincher in that one.
I don't hate Chicago or hold any hostility towards them, but it definitely brings about some bad thoughts or memories most definitely.
We have to play real physical if we want to win tonight. The Hawks don't have much toughness in their lineup. We gotta take advantage of that to make up for their advantage in skill and talent. If, and it's a big if, Rinaldo can control himself tonight he can certainly be an asset out there.
I've been saying this about every team. They are all faster than us. We need to play to our stengths
Even after all this time, whenever we play the Blackhawks my first thought is f u Ken Hitchcock. Sure Sharp had obvious skill and skated well and always played with effort, but gosh darn it he just wasn't old enough... same for Justin Williams.
They were two of my favorites and it still pains me. Oh well, at least Matt Ellison and Danny Markov worked out... Though I did enjoy watching that insane Russian for all of 34 games.
