Whalers relocation.

1998 Slovak league finals final game. The most disgusting & disgraceful display of corrupt refereeing ever.

- Joe Sakic's career ending by old man injuries. I know that you can't see all your heroes go out winners but he lasted like 9 games of the 08/09 season, and that was that.

- Bertuzzi/Moore, obviously

- The current quote in my signature, which will remain until such times when I am satisfied that it has been rectified.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned The Slash. Dispeakable.

Other items:
-- Ozzy's injury in 99, Ranford coming in, playing like crap and ruining a sure threepeat.
-- The league moving the Finals in 09 to allow banged up Wings no healing time whatsoever and stacking cards to give the Cup to Crosby.
-- The Car Accident
-- Bykov's smug attitude that precipitated the 3-7 Vancouver blowout. Wanted to kill that man.

First thing I thought of. The fact that Bertuzzi remained a free man- AND has been permitted to make a living in the NHL.

Yeah- that's up there. Also on the Clarke topic is that he was even more petulant, vindictive, and childish than Lindros in The Feud.

Another matter worthy of its own thread. From here it looks like the obvious cures will never happen, dammit.

Blues getting swept in their only 3 SCFs
McSorely and his "slash"
Crosby and his concussions. We still got to see some amazing playing by him, but we will never know what he was fully capable of.
Lemieux and his retirement (in 97). He was still one of the best, just won the Art Ross, and retired after a loss to the Flyers. He was my idle growing up and I was devastated.
Jagr (who I also loved growing up) and his return to every NHL team except the Pens

1. The Seals moving to Cleveland

2. The Barons dissolving into the Northstars

3. The 74-75 Caps only road win in their final road game of the season at Oakland

4. The 12-1 Seals loss to the Rangers at MSG

5. The 10-1 Seals loss to the Islanders at the Coliseum. I left the game at 8-1 and sat outside in the parking lot against a lamppost.

6. All the Seals that jumped to the WHA

7. Seeing Reggie Leach and Charlie Simmer become big-time scorers after leaving the Seals

1) Ronald Corey hiring Rejean Houle (so many disasters can be traced back to this one move)
2) Pollock choosing Grundmann over Bowman
3) Letting Koivu walk and trading for Gomez to replace him.
4) Treatment of Lafleur by Savard/Lemaire
5) Canada losing the Nords and the original Jets.
6) The Cancelled season. Haven't been to a game since and no longer follow the game like I used to.
7) The IIHF in the 50's to 80's, stacking the deck against Canada any chance they got.
8) Mike Liut
9) The Gretzky trade
10) The Messier trade
11) Retirement of Ken Dryden and J.Lemaire while both were still the amongst the best in the NHL. I'm sure they would have stuck around had the Habs offered him a bit of extra coin.

Here's 5 off the top of my head...

1. Let's lump the whole Keenan/Messier fiasco into one gigantic poo pile. This includes the Linden trade and the lesser known, but similarly angering Gelinas trade.
2. SCF... Game 7, 1994 and to a slightly lesser extent, 2011
3. Luc Bourdon RIP
4. The entirety of the Bertuzzi/Moore incident... including the initial hit on Naslund
5. The Neely trade

That was easy.

Some good answers here. Especially the ones that you don't have to be part of a particular fan base to feel.

The car accident...

In no particular order:

-Steve Smith pool-shot off the back of Grant Fuhr's leg

-Gary Suter injuring Gretzky and Kariya (the later having grave consequences in Nagano)

-Marc Crawford leaving Gretzky on the bench

I'm surprised we haven't seen any Nordiques' fans sharing their hate for the 1991 draft or the 1995-96 Stanley Cup team.

Oilers fan should be mentioning the Steve Smith own goal. That was a blunder and a half.

Edit: I see above that it was mentioned. Whoops

I was waiting for this, and since it hadn't been brought up yet, thought maybe Smith was finally off the hook.

That poor man.

how about Harold Snepsts' perfect pass to Mike Bossy in overtime of game one of the 82 SCF?

or future 50-goal scorer Rick Vaive being traded for ... *shudder* ... Tiger Williams?

Nothing was going to change the course of the 1982 finals, though.

The NHL (Pension Society) Appealing their loss in the suit with the former players merely delaying the inevitable while ex-players & their families went hungry, then denying benefits to the widows of deceased players resulting in yet another suit which they lost & of course appealed. Lost that one as well.

Yzerman puck to the face in the '04 WCF. I think it was Ville Nieminen from the Flames who slap shot it very wide. Unusually wide, all while the Flames were desperate.

Aside from the actual tragedies like the the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl plane crash and any of the many great/potentially great careers cut short, I'd go with the 2000's Senators not winning a Cup.

It would have been amazingly stupid, even for the Oilers, if they went with Ryan Murray first overall based on the need for blueline help.

Generational talent is an ambiguous (and useless) term but even with the most generous of uses the odds would be against such a prospect popping up in any given 3 year span. The Oilers did not have bad luck with those drafts.
