Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Islanders

Maple Leafs:
Hamonic
Donovan
3rd

Islanders:
Liles
Reimer
Broll

Reasoning:
Leafs get a pair of solid bottom pairing dman which they could desperately use. Islanders get a top 4 puck mover which they've wanted for a while, a starting goalie (or at least an upgrade on what they have now), and a player who should develop into a solid bottom 6 grinder.

Sigh.

At least he left Tavares out.

I love how Hamonic is a "solid bottom pairing dman" whereas Liles is a "top 4 puck mover."

Do you honestly feel good about this trade value? It's awful. Liles and Broll are worth nothing. Reimer has some value, but I wouldn't even consider Hamonic in a trade for him. I'd take Donovan has way more value than Liles.

Just bad.

Leafs fans and other teams for that matter, for the time being please erase these names from your memory.

Tavares
Strome
Hamonic
Nelson
Reinhart
Pulock
Martin
Cizikas
Okposo

The Isles aren't giving up Hamonic for Reimer, a cap dump and an AHLer/4th line enforcer. You do realize that Yzerman thought highly enough of him to invite him to the 2014 Canada Summer Orientation Camp?

Awful for the Isles and that reasoning is pure gold.. Leafs fans should feel bad about this one.

Reimer > de Haan, obviously.

That said, de Haan has been superb since his recall and is not getting traded.

And, the fact that you added a player with strong negative value (Liles) into the deal just makes it all that more undoable.

That just shows how deep Canada is, especially up front.

I actually think Hamonic got named to put him on the radar for future tournaments. He hasn't stepped up to that level though and is looking more and more like a second pairing guy (at least to me).

Can we just ban NYI-Leafs proposals from HF? They never, ever work out.

Methot played excellent last season playing like a #2, being a great skater (good for big ice) and one of the key reasons besides goaltending why Ottawa made the playoffs despite losing Karlsson, Spezza and Michalek to injury. Green was on pace for ~27-28 goals and ~60 points last season. He's also not 2008-2010 Mike Green defensively any more, he's gotten somewhat better. Neither of these guys will make the team but both were worthy invites.

This is about right...

He can handle himself pretty well against the top forwards but like most of the Isles defense he is asked to play above what he is...

IMO

Hamonic is a #3-4 defensive dman but a top shutdown guy

Amac is a #4-5 dman

and they are playing the roles of a#1-2 defenseman....

we really don't have a true top pairing top 2 defensman

My point is though, is that is JUST an orientation camp, and a lot of good players got left off, and a lot not so good players got invited.

I agree that a lot of good players got left off, but NO "not so good players got invited." No way a "bottom-pairing defenseman" on an NHL team like you described would be invited.

Well I would say someone like Mike Green really had 0 chance of making that team because he can't play defense regardless of his offense. Should he have gone over someone who doesn't have as good offense but plays better defense? perhaps.

Did Liles get invited? You described him as a "top four puck mover", after all.
