Ethan Moreau signs a 4yr deal

4 years from Edmonton. Kind of shocked of the length of terms considering its EDM and with the CBA next year.

I think the length of the contract makes perfect sense.. the contract is supposedly worth nearly the same each year so he'll be an Oiler at a fairly reasonable price for the next four seasons. Likewise, his trade value will likely go up a little because he is under contract and will not potentially become a UFA under the new CBA. Moreau started off last season as the best Oiler and could potentially score 20 goals with a little ice time and some consistency.

you know what's even more weird... he signed a 1-year deal back on September 4th...

so, umm, is this an extension of 3-years? or...

LOVE the avatar!!!! Oggie is great!!

Anyways, All the Oiler fans who visit the Oilers section probably know how big of a supporter I am of him. But I think that he's one of the Oilers most important players. Sure he probably never will score 20, but he has the ability. I mean he was playing real good there for a LONG time but after he hit two or three crossbars in a couple games, he went into a bit of a slump. I expect him to be around the 15-15-30 makr again this season. Best thing about him is he's GREAT with the kids... he was the most important players in Hemsky's development last year, and I think he could/would do the same with Rita this year.

I became a big-time Moreau supporter last season after I saw Ethan and his family up on the Skyreach Jumbotron giving their Christmas Greeting to the fans.. they seemed like a really nice and sincere group of people! What can I say, i'm a sucker for "Family Channel moments" ..

I have to say I was surprised of the length of the deal. I was surprised that the Oilers were willing to make this type of commitment with the impending CBA. However I suppose that they had to show their fans some sort of commitment to keeping one of thier top players after trading Ninnema and Carter last year and the inevitable trade of Comrie

I'm surprised ANY player gets 4 year deals these days...

Much less an OILER player.

People keep talking about "why would they sign him post CBA for so long". Well at those numbers above (which are GREAT) why not!? I mean there isn't going to be such a big change that Moreau at 1.2 or 1.3 is WAY to much (or even a little much) at all. Plus the Oilers will have ALL KINDS of room under what ever cap is put in place (I think it will end up around the 41-42 million mark).

when the cba comes up, i'd be more worried about guys like jagr, federov and yashin's contracts.

moreau will be an asset in many ways, and we cannot hold revolving door meantality here in edmonton. ya, there might be a youngster like pisani or rita who can replace moreau, but i don't think we can ever win a cup if we continue to ship out a player when he hits hits prime. let's build something.
