Ryan will be "long gone"

http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/12251856.htm

"The rumor is there are teams that are not in the top five that are trying to move up to get him. I would love to [draft Ryan]," Clarke said. "But I don't think we'll get the chance. The price will be too high. If we don't think the price is too steep, we'll do it."

Well, there you have it. If it won't cost them Carter, Richards, Pitkanen, Gagne, Handzus, etc., Clarke will try to move up. I'm assuming, though, that Umberger, Ruzicka, Potulny, etc. are all game. The article says that if he doesn't have to move a player that will help the team immediately, he'll do it.

Well, it's obvious that he wants the kid. I wouldn't mind having him, but at what price? I don't like trading current for future - I would like to see this team be succesful now, instead of wating on a bunch of kids to get good. If they can do it without hurting the teams present and immediate future, then I'll live.

Umberger is another guy who probably won't get traded. Clarke signed him to a max contract and Umberger chose Philly over Pittsburgh and the Leafs. He goes nowhere

Just because he choose the Flyers means squat. I don't think they trade him either but your reason makes no sense. If the offer is 20 and RJ for Ryan Clarke would probably do it and could care less he picked the Flyers

IN a deal like that yes, but he's not just going to trade him just to trade him.

People act like there is a trade to be made here that the Flyers have to make. This isn't the case. Simon Gagne, Justin Williams, Mike Richards will tell you the Flyers do just fine drafting in the 20's

Yeah, It would be great to see another local boy on the team, but I fear it's not in the cards.

We have a stockpile of young forwards anyways, I'd like to see them bring in a blueline prospect or two like (ideally) Jack Johnson, but realistically Matt Lashoff and Patrick Hersley would both be exceptional picks in my opinion.

How many SOLID 30 goals scorers Flyers drafted since Lindros??? None? Gagne? Is Gagne a solid 30 goal scorer? Not yet. Clarke drafts fighters, stay home defenseman, solid 3d and 4th line players. Thats about it.
Drafting did change ever since we hired some one from Colorado to do scouting. Flyers need to invest more $ into it.

where you think Snider is going to send some of that cash he's going to be making now? the one GLARING advantage that i haven't seen discussed too much is that the big clubs now have a TON of cash throw into scouting, coaching, and other development personel if they want to.

backwater leagues the world over are going to get scouted like they've never been before would be my belief. you are going to see the big clubs pulling guys out in later rounds that turn out to be studs with greater regularity... assuming they use their funds wisely.

The past 5 or so years they have done very well in the draft. Clarke turned Justin Williams into Danny Markov which I'm sure most smart hockey people would do.

Just because the Flyers don't light up the scoreboard doesn't mean the Flyers didn't produce great results on the ice. Other than 2001, this team has been a contender every year in the past 10 years, and there are a lot of teams around the NHL who can't say that.

The money they will be making is going to be redistributed to the the teams who can't build a fan base and make no effort to do so by trying to be competitive. Welcome to the new Socialist NHL.
