Kings Picks for tomorrows draft

The full order for the draft was released today. Here are our picks.

LA's picks.

Rd 1 #11
Rd 2 #50
Rd 2 #60-For not signing Steckel
Rd 3 #72
Rd 4-None. Traded to Chicago for Nathan Dempsey
Rd 5 #139
Rd 6 #184
Rd 7 #206
Rd 7 #226-assigned to Los Angeles for the loss of a draft pick (acquired via trade) as a result of the shortening of the Entry Draft from nine to seven rounds.

We should be able to pick up a couple of nice prospects with those two 2nds and and early third.

Source? I was just wondering why the Kings pick #60 where will the Penguins pick go?

The Kings will pick 60 and everyone else's pick gets bumped down one. If you recall, under the old CBA (which will govern the comp picks given for lost of draftees under the old CBA), a 2nd round pick is awarded in the exact same slot as the original pick was in the 1st round. In other words, Steckel was the 30th overall pick so the Kings get the 30th pick in the 2nd round which would be 60th. All other picks get bumped down one.

I figured that was the case but then I saw that Legionnaire had the Kings picking at #70 which would not be consistent with everyone being bumped back. It should be #72.

No, he's still with Manchester (I think, didn't he sign a 2 year deal with Manchester?). Either way, the comp pick is because he didn't sign with the Kings.

Steckel signed a one year deal with Manchester. I'd assume he will be a UFA and be free to sign with whichever club he chooses.

Too bad we couldn't get a pick for Karlsson.

Our 3rd round pick is #72. I have been looking through some other Mock Drafts and a name that keeps coming up for the Kings is Luc Bourdon. From what I have seen in scouting reports he might be a good pickup.

Not with the third round pick. Bourdon is going in the first round.

IMHO, I think with the first three picks, the Kings need a center and two defensemen.

I know we wouldn't get Bourdon with our 3rd round pick. I just wrote that because Legionnaire says our 3rd round pick is #70 then AnThGrt said it was #71.

But Bourdon might be the "Best player available" at #11. If that was Taylor's opinion I think he might go for him. Remember teams are not suppose to draft based on this seasons needs when you consider the Kings may look drastically different by the time our picks mature.

Bourdon isn't anything special. He won't be the best player available at 11.

I will take your word for it.

BTW Legionnaire......could you edit your first post to make our 3rd round pick #72?

Whats wit the hate for Karlsson? Nothing has changed on the guy. Everyone always said it would take a few years and that we would not know how good he was till he was in the US.

So he is in the US lets give him a season or two.

Karlsson's a stiff. He actually looked worse in the 2005 development camp than he did in the 2001 development camp. Was getting knocked around physically and missed a half empty net. Just MO.
