The Waiver Draft Trade Freeze Today.

The waiver draft trade freeze appparently is today at 2pm.

My question is...Has there ever been any big, if any at all, deals that go on before this trade deadline?

If there are, some examples would be nice....I could look it up myself, but y'know...I'm lazy.

I can't remember any big deals on the day of the roster freeze. I think there have been a few trades for a draft pick days before the freeze. I beleive that trades must be in the NHL office by 2pm.

The big question is will Holland move CUJO or take a chance of losing him for nothing!

I could see a high profile player being picked off waiver to fill a need. Teams held back with the UFA's but they may see a player that is the missing piece to complete their roster.

i think Holland is gonna risk losing Cujo to the waiver draft. I woiuldn't even call it a risk, more of a blessing if anyone takes him.

On a side note, today is the 1st day Cujo will be back with the Wings. He is scheduled to skate with the team this morning. And probably be at the game. not dressed though.

1. Was not Osgood taken at the waiver draft last year?
2. I see no indication that Colorado, St. Louis or Rangers are prepared to grab Cujo and those are the only players in that game. The only thing the waiver draft does is get around Cujo's no trade clause. That means Cujo could end up somewhere that he doesn't want to be. I don't see how that is good for the team that takes him.
3. The big ticket items available at the waiver draft are the same players that were offered up for next to nothing with the additional discount of the the trading team picking up some of the departing player's check. The Caps might have picked up $3m a year of Jagr's salary and asked for minimul return. At the waiver draft there is no discount for buying on that day. You have to take the whole $11m.
That goes for Cujo, Turgeon, Lindros, Tkachuk, Weight and so on.

I think you may get your wish considering this is the last year on his currant contract and there may be some teams looking for a center... Robert may be a way to improve there team with out giving anything up.

Yes, a couple trades have happened - nothing massive, but some big ones.

Expect to see them have AFTER the freeze lifts though, not before it comes down.

Yep, he was in the same situation as Cujo is in now...... Holland is bad at going over kill on the goalies and gettting stuck with the salary. He got away with it last time - what do you think will happen now? Would they buy him out if they could give him away?

Drury for Morris happened right before the waiver draft roster freeze last year. That trade had more to do with talent than dealing with the waiver draft. Although Lacroix said he did plan on exposing Stephane Yelle and preferred to get something for him (presumably McAmmond) rather than lose him for nothing.

I believe the Leopold for Nazarov trade was waiver draft motivated on Calgary's part.
