PRE-GAME REPORT (7pm)
Islanders at Philadelphia Flyers
"Gervais' played well," said Stirling. "There's a reason why he still here. He made a great play on Bergie's goal. The same can be said of how Sean has played as well and of all of our young guys looking for a spot."

Islanders at Philadelphia Flyers (7pm)
Today's Game:
The game will be the first of two against the Flyers in Pennsylvania as the two clubs will meet once again on Thursday in Hershey, PA. Both contests will be webcasted at NewYorkIslanders.com.
Ricky's Turn:
Last week, Stirling said netminders Garth Snow and Rick DiPietro will alternate games for the remainder of the pre-season. That means it's DiPietro's turn in goal tonight as he tries to separate himself in the tight goaltending duel this preseason.
Lappy a No Go:
Former long-time Islander Claude Lapointe will not dress for tonight's game. He suffered a lower sprained ankle while walking down the steps in his home over the weekend.

Here's for 5-0!!! Anyone tune in a few minutes early on newyorkislanders.com?? They've got this freaky peaceful sounding music on there. It's gonna put me to damn sleep!!
End of the first period, 1-0 Isles. Gervais with an assist, first point of the preseason. Anyone else think that this kid's shot of making the team is becoming greater every game??
I don't think we have the second coming of Bobby Orr here .....
However...... I like Gervais but he will need to develop some comfort with his flair he is playing soundly but I liken him to the early Dick Tarnstrom needs to get some experience with the big boys but not full time yet.
I think that Bergenheim, Papinaeu, are our two spot takers, When Weinhandle returns if Czerkawski is a flop (probably he has been non existent so far so he will cease to exist for us.

That is true. I haven't seen much of Gervais personally to judge him though. But reports are praising him that it looks like he could be a possible 7th defenseman, perhaps replacing Timander.

Hahn's had an interesting interview. Did not think Gervais has a chance and mentioned his early mistakes in the game, also that Czerkawski has done little and Stirling put Asham back with Yashin and Kvasha and gives the impression Czerawski could go back on waivers to save money.
I disagree with Hahn on Czerkawski, he has played two games?
He was correct about Papineau's production in games under Stirling, he did not mention Papineau's production in the Tigers playoffs.
Glad to see Cairns sticking up for his teammates and trying to get in the face of Brashear. He was virtually invisible lastseason after the shoulder injury and I'm glad to see he's back to his physical ways.
I don't feel satisfied with hearing that they have been down 5 on 3 in every pre season game so far!
Stirling's system is obvious to me..........
Take as many penalties as possible to keep your team from getting into any kind of rhythm.
Where's the discipline?
They are taking undisciplined penalties, they do seem to be relying too much on DiPietro and not getting enough consistent pressure on Philadelphia. Still, it's preseason and there are players out on both sides.
Only thing I really do not like is DiPietro seems to be overhandling the puck according to the broacast.
thanks for the updates...it was nice to read everything as it happened during the game. Eventhough i am reading this at 10:30 EST.
TL - you raise a good point. the undisciplined penalties are a bad omen. that's not gonna fly again this year. especially after guys like Aucoin, Scatchard, and Weimer took a host of bad penalties/wrong time of game last year. We need to avoid that big time.
NYIsles1 - i like the emphasis on DiPietro. He 'sounds' like he is playing well. Again, it's not full NHL squads out there, but the Sterling system (like i said over the summer) is benefitting this team overall and the players are making a smooth transition thus far.
as far as chow, he really hasn't done much thus far. However, the media seems to be catering to the BST kids and their role during training camp. the media has shied away from storylines involving yash, peca, weimer, jonsson, niinimma, etc...yes, there have been stories about them, but they have been minimal compared to those on Paps, Bergs, Gervy, goaltending, etc...
chow on waivers? interesting....he has a reasonable salary that may make someone bite on him...
Anytime Blitz. Glad to help out with the updates. As long as I'm available I plan on trying to do these all season. The Isles have been very undisciplined all preseason and have given up many powerplays. Hopefully they can control this when the regular season starts up. I'm glad I can help out in any way...
