Straka and Cousins have been pretty quiet in the AHL for awhile. Not watching the games, Im guessing they're not on the top line.

Gostisbehere was injured tonight. Took a check at the boards, returned for one shift, then did not play the final two periods. No word about the severity, but he'll be re-evaluated tomorrow.

Phantoms lost to the Penguins 4-1 on Friday, Akeson with the lone goal.

Phantoms beat the Senators 4-1 on Saturday, Akeson the only Phantom with a multi point game (2g 1a).

That's 31 pts now in 35 games for Akeson, good for 15th in the league.

Really wish he would get a shot at the next level.

Seriously, Akeson does not belong in the AHL.

It's tough, because where does he play? Not good enough defensively to play a bottom-6 spot, not the physical worker you'd want on Giroux's line... Not sure how you work him in.

Or on a not so deep team. His contract is up iirc this year and I doubt he re-signs here. I wouldn't be surprised to see him on an NHL team like the Islanders next season.

Murray said he thinks he's an NHL player and he hopes he gets an opportunity to show it. That's pretty high praise coming from a guy of that pedigree.

Akeson has shown he has a good work-ethic, but not the awareness/skillset to make it all work in the NHL. That's fine. There isn't shame in that. In fact, he's exactly the type we need to start accumulating in order for the Phantoms to become respectable again, and give our prospects a taste of what it means to win in the pros. We need more players like Little, Kane, Slaney, etc. Without them, we get what we've been getting in the AHL which is a substandard product, and that's not conducive to developing your prospects... at all.

From what I have seen and heard of Akeson he seems to be the kind of guy who is going to will himself into the NHL one way or another, be it with the Flyers or another team. His AHL figures keep getting better each year, he has pretty damn good offensive instincts from what I have seen, especially passing. His speed and D have improved as well... though not really NHL standard for a bottom 6 role really.

I'm rooting for the guy, be it here or elsewhere.

Trading and drafting Ekblad in our draft would be a huge splash. That kid is the real deal.

Would take a lot though to get.

unless we somehow end up with the 1st OA pick, we won't be drafting him

Agreed. How can you not root for a hard working player, who's on the small side and also went undrafted? Read and Gus should be his role models.

Only realistic way to get Ekblad is miss the playoffs and win the lottery.

If Akeson had Wellwood's wheels or Cousin's tenacity, he would already be on the NHL roster.

The problem with him is that he is a smallish guy with subpar or average at best skating who plays a skill game but does not light up the scoreboard to a degree that would make anybody forget about the glaring holes in his play at the NHL level.

Akeson has far better offensive ability than these scrubs.

Morin with an assist. First period and the team is losing 3-1

Edit: 5-2 losing but Morin has 2 assists and is a +1

Double edit: looks like they took the second assist away

That boy needs to eat & hit the weights harder, 170 pounds with a 6'4" frame.

That's assuming those are his correct measurements.

He fought last night with about 4 minutes left in the 3rd period & got booted from the game for "fighting under 5 minutes left in the game or overtime". I don't know if that's grounds for another suspension or not?

As for the fight it was mostly sweater jabs, followed by a hugfest, & a takedown by Morin. It seems like the guy was purposefully trying to take Morin out of the game as he bumped into Morin at the end of the play & Morin took the bait.

I would just like to give a big thank you to all of the people keeping track of our prospects here. This is really keeping me informed and I appreciate it.

the way you describe the context of the fight makes Morin seem undisciplined...Is it bad that I'm happy he will throw down and shut someone up??
