Mtl-pit

Just wondering if both fanbases think this trade would be fair:

To Montreal:

Malkin

To Pittsburgh:

Subban
Galchenyuk

Not bad.

But the Habs can't lose Subban... it's not gonna happen.

Okay value, just totally unrealistic. Both teams decline.

Does the proposal involve Crosby or Malkin?

Yes?

Then the answer is no.

No its not fair actually, its too much value for MTL (a star and a future star player for a star player)

Maybe something like Letang+Malkin for Subban+Galchenuyk+1st pick would be more realistic and fair.

Strong homerism

Malkin is one of the 3 best player in the world, that's a fair trade

Add desharnais + a first and a second from Montreal. Then Despres from Pittsburgh. I think it makes both teams better.

Yeah, that's not happening. The Pens don't need Subban enough to justify trading Malkin for him. They already have an issue with too many D. Why would they trade Malkin for another. Just a completely stupid offer.

Change Subban to Pacioretty then add, but still that makes no sense. Malkin isn't being traded.

Key word is "future star". I mean the closest thing to Galchenuyk is perhaps Seguin. How long it's taken to Seguin to start looking like a player people thought he'd be? Yeah, 4 years and 1 trade. Nobody can garantee Galchenuyk will be any good for the next 1-2-3 years. And Pens don't have time to wait.

Given the Penguins dman crop, this is an easy no from them.

Gross, look at that gaping hole in 2C now. I can't imagine this team without Crosby/Malkin, that hole Malkin will leave is too huge. Then you got Letang/Subban making 7M+ each.

That hole would be filled by Galchenyuk...

He couldn't replace Malkin's points. It's just not there. We don't need Subban, Malkin and Neal are money together, Malkin loves Pittsburgh, Subban has...attitude issues...this trade just doesn't happen.

no he doesn't.

Pens won't ever trade Malkin, so there's really no point in this.

Although the deal is bad for both teams and neither does it you lose all credibility when you say Subban has attitude issues...

I don't pull the trigger on that one if I'm the Habs.

7.5 Years of cost-controlled Malkin for pending UFA Subban plus Galchenyuk? When the Pens already have so many defensemen that even after losing Scuderi, Martin, Orpik and Letang to injury, were able to replace them with Maatta, Bortuzzo, Despres and Dumoulin and then beat the Red Wings? And they still have Harrington down in the AHL?

The Pens don't need another defenseman, even a Norris-Trophy winner like Subban, particularly when there is no guarantee of him staying, and Galchenyuk is not even close to a replacement for Malkin (here's a hint: Galchunyuk's career points in the NHL to date is only barely more than half what Malkin got in his rookie year alone, despite Malkin playing in 4 fewer games in his rookie year than Galchenyuk has played in his career to date; career-wise, Malkin more than doubles Galchenyuk's points per game pace).

The Penguins pass on this one, no question. It doesn't address a single need on the team for them.

No thanks. Malkin is here for the long term. Subban is on a bridged contract. We need Malkin more than we'd need Subban.

And that matters because...? Unless you think Subban will make more than 9.5mil on his next contract.

Value is absolutely fair but the Pens would have no interest in getting rid of Malkin. Subban is a great player but the Pens have incredible prospect depth on defense and the last thing they need is to add a defensive player who will command a huge contract in the offseason.

From an on-ice standpoint, Galchenyuk looks very promising but Malkin is already a top-3 player in the world. They also have a similar (if somewhat inferior) player to Subban in Kris Letang signed long-term already. I don't think this trade really makes the Pens a better team long-term or short-term.

No. Pittsburgh is not trading Malkin.

And even if they were, as good as Subban is and Galchenyuk looks like he'll be this addresses zero needs for the Pens, who already have defensemen coming out of their ears.
