I still say we go hard after P.K. Subban. Trade for his rights and pay the man.

PK Subban, simply put, will cost us Taylor Hall.

your right, but also think the lack of stability robs you of your confidence and once your confidence is shot it's all downhill

Brossoit is putting up the worse stats of any of the 7 goalies that were down there. It's not good for the rest of the team that is trying to develop to be stuck with Brossoit. Him starting in the ECHL might be what he needs at this point or backing up Bachman like the current situation is.

Brad Richards and Girardi for 2014 1st, sam gagner and martin Marincin

richards is rumored to be a compliance buy out after this season, girardi is a UFA, gagner fill the richards void for one more year and either he elevates his play and if not his contract expires year after. Marincin is a nice consolation prize for losing girardi (bit of a gamble but girardi is leaving anyway) and a potential top 5 picks.

why for the oilers?

richards takes the heavy lifting for RNH and lets him develop at a more controlled pace. SAlary is high, experience is hugely valued. Girardi is just like that our best dman we work hard to sign him to a 3-4 year deal.

With all this talk of the Oilers having a losing atmosphere....well alot of the fans don't help by scouring the forums to see what spare part or waiver wire pick up we can get to help us win games
If you want to improve in anything, you have to go for what is not available, not what anyone can have. If you want to win, you gotta be okay with losing pieces of what you have now in order to achieve it. The top teams are successful because they create winning capabilities for the players (whether through maintenance of continuous action and self-consistent detail, or even through leadership of proven veterans) All you need to do is look at the Penguins, Red Wings, Black Hawks... etc.

I wonder if the Isles would be interested in the following...

Gagner and Dubnyk

for Martin and Macdonald.

Macdonald is a UFA after this season and I'm wondering if their internal cap will prevent them from locking him up?

I thought the reason the Rags wouldn't trade him is because if he retires they get screwed?

an interesting feature of capgeek.com is their deadline day space. It omits ELC bonus numbers but that is OK, not too many of our ELC guys are hitting their bonuses this year. We can always carry some to next year.

The opportunity is that we can take up to $33,000,000 in expiring contracts at the deadline without going over the cap. This year is shot anyways. There might be a lot of teams looking for some space in order to fill a need. It also allows us to retain salary for players we trade like Hemsky.

Just once, it would be nice for our billionaire owner to spend a bit to improve the team.

Gagner does nothing for them as they have Strome, Tavares, Nielsen and Bailey down the middle. MacDonald is one of their best and most underrated D-men, I know he was scratched recently but I still vey much doubt they'd be willing to give up a Dman when they're hurting in that area. Dubnyk is a back up and they already have one at the end of his line is Nabokov.

Why does LA add salary for a move that's (in a best-case scenario) a very, very marginal upgrade for them, and at worst a downgrade?

Only one I can think of is that Hall is signed at $6m whereas they are going to have to pay Subban $8m(?) for forever.

Two guys I would target for the 3rd line is Stafford and Kulemin both UFA after this season. Kulemin is excellent defensively and would be very useful on the PK as well as giving some offense when needed. Stafford is probably a bargain basement type player who could pay off if he finds his game again.

Kulemin - Gordon - Stafford is pretty decent as a 3rd line.

Stafford is not a UFA after this season...

He is not a UFA until the 2015-16 season
