Power Play

In one ward, STUPIDITY.
We posses the puck so much during our PP and just circle the net looking for Subban while he's covered 99% of the time. Other teams know that he's our only weapon on the PP so they just cover him. Guys like Markov, Paccioretty, Gionta, Diaz get so many opportunities to shoot 1vs1 on the goalie without coverage and they just keep looking for Subban. It's getting embarrassing.

That's what kills me. He's not. But we act like he is.

There's a more basic problem, Therrien doesn't even PP lines, he just employs his ES lines on the PP.

no forwards can beat anyone, they just cover the d and the two wingers stay wide and shoot, they don't make a move towards the net, probably cause they don't have any moves, we have all shooters and guys who stand in front of the net, except for galchenyuk and maybe plecs

Needs a D who can slap it on 2nd wave. Current 2nd wave with Boullion isn't a threat.

There is never anyone in front of the net. Like ever. Literally never. So many times i see where they can make a good low down play but, yup, no one in front of the net.

We need to keep DD the **** off the PP. At the slim chance he wins the faceoff, the rest of the minute he solely passes to Subban and Pacioretty. At least Plekanec's PP wave shoots the damn puck themselves.

Pacioretty - Plekanec - Briere
Subban - Markov

Galchenyuk - Eller - Gallagher
Subban/Markov - Diaz

Watching the Patch-DD-Gally line on the PP was pretty pathetic. All three forwards just standing on the goal line. Not moving their feet. Not doing much actually. Just waiting for Subban to shoot the puck.

Galch-Plek-Gio was a lot better. Galch actually likes having the puck on his stick in the corner and down low. He starts off in the corner, then works his way to the front of the net and taps in a rebound.

We won't score many goals if our forwards aren't moving their feet, or if our forwards are simply unable to win battles down low despite being on a powerplay (DD,Briere, etc.)

Part of the equation is lack of resources (lack of talent in the organization as a whole, redundancy and some of the better talent not fully developped).

Another part is not having the best players out there, but just using ES combos, as someone else stated.

And as well, Therrien failing to adjust to opposition systems in a timely manner, when every team knows that they place too much reliance on Subban and Markov.

The problem is that Markov-Subban get wasted with Desharnais. He loses every puck battle and he does not seem to understand the notion that you have to SET UP a powerplay. He is always just throwing the puck to Pacioretty like they are on a 2-on-1 rush. They never get set up, they never make plays and the puck is thrown down the ice.

The only time we get any pressure is when Galchenyuk/Eller get on the ice because they win battles, set up and make plays. Unfortunately, they are on the ice when Bouillon/Gorges is coupled with Raphael "couldn't hit a soccer net" Diaz.

Subban shoots way too much and his shot isn't getting off the ice. I know he wants to create a rebound, but we suck at getting the rebounds and putting them in. He needs to start trying to shoot to score or fake his shot, get the defender down and make a play.

Having no legitimate sniper definitely hurts as well.

Plekanec is our best player on the half wall and he needs to be on the first unit.

If they are going to feed the point shot on the PP then there has to be significant net presence. Lately the opposing goalies have had no trouble whatsoever seeing Subban's shots. Basically they just push Subban to the outside and keep the front of the net clear and our PP is neutralized. We need a one time option in the slot and traffic in front. It's that simple.

Good point and MT did the same for much of the season with Markov-Subban and Bouillon-Diaz on the PP, mirroring his ES D-pairings. Maybe it's too complicated for him to customize the PP?

Every moment DD is on the PP is wasted time because he always passes and never shoots. Defenders should know by now that whenever he has the puck to always play the pass. Never mind that he falls down and can't win a single puck battle. What's even worse is that he and #67 are buddies and wouldn't like being separated...

Here is an article on why the Canadiens reliance on the Powerplay has the potential to hurt the team:
