Oneill to Toronto done deal

Team 1200 the Leafs are close to acquiring Jeff O'neill. I have heard Pilar's name through out..

Edit: Never mind done deal.....for a conditional pick

Grat move.

Some won't like it, however it was a fantastic move.

Maybe we'll see Roberts/Nieuwy/O'Neill all sign today/tommorow now.

Very good trade for the Leafs, bringing in a guy like Jeff. He's a dominant player, even though last season didn't show it.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say it now:

Jeff O'Neill 2005-2006 totals- Goals: 45 Assists: 35 Points: 80 playing alongside Roberts and Sundin.

I wonder if we're giving up another first rounder? That would be really annoying.

Considering what some teams did with their first rounder's in a supposed stacked draft I would be fine with giving Carolina a first seeing how Fedoruk nets a 2nd

I'm excited about O'Neill, he's gonna be great on Sundins wing. And, maybe this will keep Roberts in Toronto, you never know.

I wonder if its strictly production that is considered for the conditional pick or possibly if how much he eats away at the cap will also be considered. If we end up paying him roughly what we would have on the open market 3-4 million then giving up any pick seems pointless.

Be careful with Jeff O'Neill. He does in fact have a drinking problem, as is apparent by his numerous DUI's while with Carolina. With his personal problems right now, including the death of his brother, he's going to need lots of support to not turn to alcohol.

If he stays away from his personal off the ice issues, i'd say he is a great addition for Toronto, but i'm glad he's no longer a Hurricane.

Here's hoping it's a first round selection, but i'm more inclined to believe it's a 2nd. Considering that he's damaged goods, and coming off a very poor season. I've been surprised before though.

Being close to home in Toronto may help him and his family out with the terrible problems they have had to go through lately. Hope for the best with him and his family.

Hes a great scorer and has the potential to score any where from 30-40 goals.

Yea, on the TSN ticker it says 4th round draft choice.

Great deal, also they signed him to a multi-year contract.

Rumours they're signing him to a multi-year deal, and at most it will cost a 4th. rounder.

Does this mean the Forsberg deal is off the table?

"We've got a deal done and it's more than one year; a two-year deal," Ferguson said.

I'm lovin' it. This has turned into a great day after Montreal, Ottawa and even Vancouver drafted guys that were a reach at their pick position.

Great deal, for a guy we've been trying to get for how long now? He's still young, and hopefully has lots of good years ahead of him. I just hope that the whole family issues he's going through don't effect him too much, but I'm sure they will, I mean, how can it not?

I'm extremely happy with how this day turned out.

Rask and O'Niell...

I screamed when I heard the trade.

Sportsnet has learned the Leafs then signed O'Neill to a two-year, $3-million deal ($1.5-million each season).

Gotta like it. Off the top of my head, O'Neill could be qualified for $2.8 million dollars. Methinks that Toronto has inked him for less than that amount. I'd guess perhaps $2.3 million a season ? Any way, looks like we get a good, proven, big winger for resonable dollars, who want to play in Toronto and is from the City.

This singing should also help bring back Roberts and Nieuey. They'd look good at about $1.5 to $1.75 million a piece, one year contract.

Regarding Domi, who does he think he is ? Just my opinion but his spouting off to the Star about he's going to base his decision on coming back or not after watching what the Leafs do is somewhat arrogant. I like his grit and determination but he's an overpaid 3rd/4th line player based on his pre CBA salary who isn't getting any younger. He hardly makes or breaks the Leafs. Perrott is waiting in the wings and will play for the league minimum. No way in he11 that Domi makes even his 24% rollback salary in the new CBA NHL (about $1.5 million). The absolute most that I'd pay him is a million and I'd have to reach to justify even that. If that offends him, it's good bye Tie as far as I'm concerned.

If true, O'Neill at $1.5 million a season is a steal. He put his money where his money was when he stated he'd take less to play for the Leafs. Sets a good example for Roberts, Nieuy and Domi to follow.
