You guys just got a guy with tremendous upside. I got to watch him play all last season with the Hitmen, and he was very good raw power forward potential. His scoring was a little slow to start off the season, but he came around later in the season and the playoffs. He's a high energy, physical guy, who goes all out every shift. Nice pick!

I love it, and thanks for your input. He's definately a guy that was rising very quickly due to his great playoffs. I hope he breaks out offensively next year.

He was ranked fairly high, even with his scoring struggles early on. He should be given every opportunity to play on a top line scoring role with Getzlaf, Ladd and a few other forwards graduating or turning pro. This is just me, but his raw skills remind me a lot of Ryan Getzlaf in his first few junior season, with maybe a little less skill, but much more grit and intensity....

I don't know for sure but I'd bet they were going to take Barnes at 66..I guess we'll never know since Carolina took him, but when we dealt 45 for 56 and 66 I was almost positive they were going to take him with one of the picks.

"I'm sure he's not pleased about Carolina."

Then I'm glad we never had a shot at him. How's there displeasure in being drafted at all?

There's a big difference between the Rangers and Carolina. Sure, getting drafted is nice but I'm sure he's disappointed in where he ended up.

I like this pick a lot. ISS saids he could be a decent power foward who will put up 25 goal seasons..if that comes true this would be a very very smart pick.

I don't think there is a difference. Other than a spoiled hockey player...Ask Jack Johnson what he feels about going to CAR and guaranteed he's got a different tune.

Like this kid a lot. He's pretty raw but he's one of those kids whose stock could go through the roof.

I completely agree. I figured, though, that he'd be a lot closer to 40 or so. Nice pick up.

I really like this draft, overall.

Rangers wanted to take Barnes 66th, but Carolina took him 64th. And Minnesota was going to take him 65th if he got past Carolina. So we would have had to take him 56th.

I still don't see how you know for a fact they wanted Barnes at 66. They could've just moved up a few spots and taken him instead of letting Carolina get him.

I speak to someone frequently who is close to Barnes. They're actually pretty ecstatic about going to Carolina. The 'Canes don't have much prospect depth up front and that gives Joe a better chance.

It sounds like we took a chance that he'd be available at #66, and guessed wrong. I've liked hearing what you've had to say about him, and I wish we would have gotten Barnes. I wonder if we had him rated higher than M-A Cliche and if we were just taking the chance that Barnes would be available later but Cliche wouldn't.

Sounds like this guy could even be IMMEDIATE help for Carolina given his age and size. He sounds like a finished product.

AWESOME pick. Helluva selection. I had him rateed at 35. Great work ethic and showed gritty goalscoring ability at the end of the year. Very pleased with this selection.
