It's not that bad now, but I don't think a 34-36 year old Phaneuf will be worth 7 mil a year.

The Leafs didn't have a choice though, he would get that term on the open market and he's easily their best defenseman.

Always a tough call, could they trade him? I don't think they make the playoffs with him, so..........

I was already expecting Subban to get around 8 million when he won the Norris. It's just the way things go with the cap going up and seeing some of the other contracts going around.

Like it's been said....it's not the amount now. It's the percentage based on the cap. And if Weber makes around 15% of what the cap is now, Meehan will calculate what 15% of the upcoming cap is, hence the possibility to see 9 or even 9,5 M$ per year. Wished it won't be...but hey....I'm not paying...well not entirely true...I do pay....anyway.

If Ottawa can't beat Boston tonight without Chara or Seidenberg they should just pack it in for the year.

They could, but they'd need to get a similar defenseman back in the deal.

They might not make the playoffs with him, but they would have no chance if they just dealt him away for futures.

Karlsson is so terrible in his own zone. Amazing how people put him in the same category as PK.

It's amazing that people argue that he's defensively reliable in the slightest. He makes mind boggling decisions with offense always at the front of his mind. What's funnier is how muhc ice time he gets in important situations where he constantly just coughs it up.

The guy is a liability in his own zone.

Just make him a winger already or even a centre since he loves having the puck so much.

That play that Karlsson made against Paille or I should say lack of play was A) a junior move and B) soft as hell.

This guy is a Norris winner? Holy ****.

The day the Norris lost his definition.....Might as well give the trophy the Marc-André Bergeron trophy....and give the Norris, the Orr or whataver to real GREAT 2-way d-man.

Patrick Kane with another point. 14 straight games. Has at least 1 point in 26 of his last 27 games.

EDIT: and another one!

I wish we'd play PK on the wing on the PP. Teams have learnt to cheat quite a bit on PK and Markov and have their wingers high. The fact that PK is our best puck carrier, if he could start on the wing, the wingers and centers wouldn't have to wait for him to gain the zone and be behind him. If he was passed the puck on a break out, he would have a center and a winger with him to give him more passing options.

It would also give us someone really strong on the puck deep in the zone on the PP. It would also add another shooter up front and give us more options.

Honestly, I think that Subban is the only D who loses points. Everybody else only gains points when they make great plays and never loses points otherwise.

Everybody has looked for reasons to include the likes of Pietrangelo, Bouwmeester, and Vlasic on Team Canada, while simultaneously, looking for every reason to exclude Subban from the team.

Boston D tonight: Warsofsky, Krug, McQuaid, Trotman, Boychuck and Barkowski. Should be time for that team to start losing now.

At this point I don't see St. Louis not making a trade for a goalie. Just no way that they'll go into the playoffs with Halak and Elliot. They haven't been nearly consitent enough. The Blues time to win is now and the last thing you need when competing for a cup is questions in net.

Ryan Miller would be the guy I'd most expect to be heading that way. 1st rounder, prospects... They've got to do something.

Yeah, they have the pieces to get it done too. Miller should be the target. He would be pretty awesome behind that team especially after playing behind the Sabres the last couple of years.

I think Halak or Elliott would have to be included in any deal, no? But yeah, I see them making a move for Miller sooner rather than later. Miller behind that team would be nuts.

And the Blues tied it up...5-5.
