Yes! Oh my goodness I was angry when they made Gionta captain instead of Georges he is a way better leader.

I like the spark but he rubs some people the wrong way, isn't a veteran, and I could see a dozen different ways how that would end up being a terrible decision. Still has a lot to learn too.

Skill is not what ultimately makes a good captain. Look at Brown in LA. How many points does that guy have? At best, he's a second-liner. At worst, a 3rd-liner. LA is killing this year, same as last year, and the year before that. They won the Cup under his leadership.

Gionta isn't that productive anymore and is currently the captain. Last year, the team soared to new heights. This year, they're on the same track, record-wise. All things considered (injuries at the beginning of the year artificially crippling the team), they are in good standing.

A captain has to be available to the media and communicative with the ability to speak his mind to the players. And be grounded. To me, Pacioretty would be my choice. Good work ethic, seems well-liked and respected by his peers, grants interviews all the time and seems to be an upstanding guy. Can't see how that'd be a bad choice... except that the media would probably make a big stink out of the fact that he doesn't speak French, in spite of how Gionta doesn't and the world didn't end.
You're the one who doesn't seem to realize what a captain is supposed to do. These are professional athletes. They don't need a vocal cheerleader. They need a leader. Someone who can lead by example and will the team towards victory. Subban is the one who fits this description the best. He elevates his play when games matter, and you can tell he really wants to win.

I believe a good captain shoots the puck at the other team when he's upset, and uses the phrase 'lets go boys!' as much as possible. Gorges has all these attributes.

Serious question: Would anyone have a problem if Gallagher were made captain next year or the year after? Doesn't this guy exemplify everything we want our players doing on the ice? He's not the best player we have but even when he's not putting up points he's still creating space for other players and doing the hard work.

Personally i have no problem if Gorges is who the players decide. But to say we need a leader who lead by example and say not gorges, then you have memory like goldfish. This is someone who gives all for his team. He is among the leaders in shot blocking every year, took on Mclaren to defend a teamate ( and was horribly beaten ) and i remember a few years ago ( 4 maybe ) when playing i think it was LA he was creamed against the boards... I remember two players had to pick him up and the look on his face was like he was in another timezone he was so messed up, and he came back in the next period and got drilled again...
Point being, is there is alot more than just scoring goals when leading by example... I would prefer a " never give up " attitude in a captain over just get a bunch of points and thats good enough one!

Err, not yet. He is a player that plays every night and others look to him to get amped, but he has no real leadership value at this stage in his career. He is still a young player that needs guidance by the vets, hence why he is living with Gorges.

In 4-5 years, who knows? Tons of great young players will hit their prime and by then, they will all have matured to the point where they can lead a team, both on and off the ice.

Your captain should be one of the guys the other guys respect and follow it has nothing to do with his skill on the ice. Some of the most skilled guys are also the least respected and terrible leaders. I think he would make a good captain to be honest he is vocal leads by example on the ice and apparently off it also. A big personality also usually fails with the C on their jersey I do not think Subban would excell as our captain he is far too exciteable and speaks without thinking on the ice.

How about two years from now? Assuming he's playing at the same level. What about to start the 2015-16 campaign? I'd say he'd be ready by then to assume the role.

I don't like making very young players captain, unless the team is in total rebuild mode. But if the team is in a large hockey market with already established veterans why put that pressure on a 19/20 year old kid. Not today but one day Gallagher, Gal and of course PK could all be captains and all would be better than Georges/Markov/Plek or whoever they name when Gionta leaves.

You know this isn't the actual vote right? This is just a discussioj about how it might go. Obvious not clear to you.

Gorges? No. Bottom pairing D shouldn't be captain. I'd make many, many other playera captain first. Including some of the young guys. Picking one of our medicore vets again shows we're not ready to move to the new generation.

If the team wants Gorges to be captain then he should 100% be the captain.

I don't get why people hate the idea that the players on the team might look up to Gorges as a leader, despite the fact he's not the best player on the team.

Let the players vote the captain (secret vote). It will be the best reflection of who they respect.
