Who are the 'value' line free agents...?

With all the big names likley getting big contracts, who are the 'value ' pickups, who could have a big impact at a small costs? (lets say 2-3 million/per).

Paul Kariya's my value pick. If he gets over his slump, and returns to form somewhat, he can be a really effective player, and I could definetely see him sign for $2.5-3 million. His buddy Teemu Selanne could be in the same boat. He could sign for as little as $1 million, yet be an effective 60-point scorer if he has a rebound year. Finally, I'd say Ray Whitney'd be good value. He could be signed for $1-2 million, and he could be a very effective player next season.

I'm hoping Anaheim could somehow bring in all three. They'd be some nice additions, and not at a large cost.

I think the team that picks up Berard will be happy. He'll cost around $2mil and put up 60 points.

Agreed, if the new NHL rules are geared to help fast skating snipers then Kariya could end up being a steal.

I pick Vincent Damphousse. he's a classy guy who won't command the prices the bigger guys are getting and i don't think he minds.

Lindros, Allison, Turgeon, Damphousse, Kariya, Selanne, Gratton, Cassels, Whitney, Carter, LeClair, Amonte, Joseph, Burke, etc. will all take substantially less than they would normally command on the open market

Value and Gratton should never be used in the same sentence.

One name that hasn't been mentioned is Rathje. He's a quality defender and he's barely even mentioned as an available free agent. Another guy is Scatchard (I believe he's an UFA at least). He's a pretty solid centre that could play some decent second line minutes on some teams...

TSN lists Scatchard as a right hander. Interestingly enough, both Scatchard and Rathje are Alberta boys...
