There are 2 pre-tournament games today. Both will be shown on TSN.

Canada vs. Finland @ 10:00 am and USA vs. Sweden @ 1:30 pm

Mooseheads star and Canadian alternate captain Jonathan Drouin still has not practiced with the team and is not expected to play in Friday's matchup.
Can't find anything yet if Ikonen and Erne are expecting to play.

"We are pleased to have settled on our three goaltenders and seven defensemen for the tournament," Johannson said in a statement. "Due to a medical matter, we are still evaluating our forwards and expect to make a final decision by our first game on Dec. 26."

Johannson is referring to Adam Erne (Quebec Remparts; Tampa Bay Lightning) and Tyler Motte (University of Michigan; Chicago Blackhawks). Both forwards haven't skated with the team since Dec. 17 in a pre-tournament exhibition against Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minn. Erne and Motte skated on their own Sunday morning for the first time since that exhibition game.

U.S. coach Don Lucia expects both players to resume practicing with the team Monday afternoon.

"We didn't work, starting from myself," said left winger Jonathan Drouin, who sat out the first pre-tournament game on Friday. "I think the key guys have to produce offence and we didn't. We have to work harder against a skilled team like that."
Quote:
"I thought he was average at best," Sutter stated bluntly. "He didn't play very good at all, but it's his first game. It was a feel-out process for him tonight. I guess I'm not surprised the way it was. He hasn't played in a while and obviously we're playing a top, top team."

"Obviously, a little slow start," Drouin acknowledged. "It's been three weeks so first game is going to be a little harder. It was getting better and better as the game went on."

Canada wraps-up its pre-tournament schedule with a game against Switzerland on Monday. Drouin believes that one more game should be enough for him to be ready for the tournament opener on Thursday against Germany.

"I'm sure I'll be fine, like I said, it just took some time and as the game went on I felt better and better," said Drouin, who was picked third overall in last June's NHL draft by Tampa Bay. "There's one more game and I'm sure I'll be better."

Two PP goals for Drouin. More impressively, I thought, he looked very comfortable operating from the point. I think there are very few forwards who are suited to this, only the ones with exceptional vision, but Drouin certainly seems to be one. His first goal actual came off an impressive through-the-legs pass to a man down low, who shot, and then Drouin banked the rebound.

Connor McDavid passed up a few opportunities, but his speed and agility are pretty jaw-dropping. Changes direction before you realize what's going on.

Canada vs. Germany is not pretty. Germany scored early and then I don't think the puck has come out of their zone since. Currently 2-1 Canada. Drouin with an assist. QBing the PP, Drouin steps in and makes a quick pass down low, shot, rebound, Anthony Mantha scores.

EDIT: Drouin with his second assist. Just plain hard work cycling the puck with a defender draped on him. Mantha winds up with the puck alone behind the net, walks out front, scores. 2nd goal for Mantha, 2nd secondary assist for Drouin.

4-2 Canada after 1. The Germans, unsurprisingly, look overwhelmed. But they've capitalized on what feels like their only opportunities.

He's not playing a ton, but he is on the 1st pp unit. Maybe Canada is still easing him in.

Looks like Sutter is rolling four lines. Icetime-wise, Drouin's had a couple of whistles midway through shifts that have ended them early. Looks like Sutter wants everyone's legs warm.

I'm wondering if Drouin's been told to play it safer than his usual game in this tournament. He's not challenging people one-on-one. Making simple, solid plays.

Drouin with a really pretty pass through traffic to Mantha, Mantha scores on a tap-in. Mantha with a hat trick, Drouin with 3 assists.

Drouin controls the PP so well.

Not much from him at ES so far though.

He's done it a few times, unsuccessfully.

Playing the point too. Not sure if that will translate to the NHL, but he definitely seems like one of the few players who could not only do it but excel at it.

I love how he walks down off the line from the left point. Opens up a ton of options.

2nd assist was ES with Drouin making a nice play along the boards to get the cycle going. Other than that though, you're right, the line hasn't had much flow as a whole.

Nice awareness from Drouin in front of his own net.

Vasi's gets a quick cushion. Russians up 2-0.

Edit: ...aaaaand 3-0

Edit: 4-0. It's like watching a non-stop powerplay.

Edit: 5-0. Still in the first.

Is it just me or has Drouin's line missed at least one shift?

Edit: He gets out a couple minutes later. Obviously looking to set Mantha up.

Edit: 7-2 final. Drouin 3 assists. Game's biggest standout was probably Connor McDavid, despite Mantha's hat trick.

A solid game from Drouin. Didn't see anything spectacular with his hands or legs like we did in the Super Series.

Probably looked a little more like the NHL version of him. Obviously against weak competition though. Again, I wonder if he was asked to tone it down and play a little bit safer.

Norway is a wee bit outmatched against Russia.

edit: They did it again. They're playing Don't Stop Believing during a stoppage in the third where Norway is down 11-0. They also did this in the CAN-GER game when Deutchland was down by 5 with 4 minutes left.

you can also hop over to NHL.com and watch team USA trounce Czech (if you're in the US I guess)
