So if Omark shows that he can't play in the NHL with Buffalo, whose fault is it now?

As for "poor asset management"... It's a career AHLer for a pick. Should we have asked for an NHLer or something?

Buffalo could've had him for free. Several times. Poor asset management on their part, maybe.

Yeah, terrible asset management.
I feel the sarcasm and it's not necessary....I just think we could have gotten more....yes he cleared waivers....yes 29 other teams passed on him but things change (obviously since someone was willing to offer something NOW).

I think we could have gotten more and I think a 6th round pick is useless. Who knows, maybe that 6th rounder was the absolute best anyone could get for Omark, but in my head, I doubt that....just my opinion...

If MacT could have gotten more, it stands to reason that he would have.

This is where uneducated, unsubstantiated opinions really bring this place down a few notches.

Good luck to Omark. Hopefully he helps lift Buffalo past the Oilers in the standings so that we finish last, and get the best chance at the #1 pick. Sad that it's come to that so soon into the season, but...

Really? No reason to question mact's trading ability? Fine...

I'm not a huge Omark supporter and never saw him as a long term oiler considering our team....but unless I'm crazy, I'm looking at an nhl team almost guaranteed to finish bottom 3. A team that's only saving grace is our "potential" even though we rarely see evidence of it.

And (even though it's not what the oilers need) I see the goal (and point) leader on our farm team traded for essentially nothing. Maybe call him up and give him another chance? Not to "make the team" but to up his value pre-trade....it's not like it could get much worse. And maaaaaaaybe he would have surprised us (unlikely).

It doesn't matter I guess at the end of the day. When I talk about upping his trade value, it was by a round or 2 so not the biggest of losses regardless.

Down to 47 contracts now? I would certainly hope this is a move to open up space for a bigger move. But that's too optimistic.

So MacTavish has just given away one of our players again for absolutley nothing. First Smid, and now Omark! What an excellent strategy, lets not add talent or grit to our team lets just give away players for free !!!!

You're not going to up his trade value by recalling him. We're talking about a guy who already cleared waivers. They gave him away for nothing. It's a pick conditional on Omark making their pro team for, likely, the rest of the year. He'd be back in Switzerland come the new year if MacT didn't unload him.

Good enough for your gut?

In retrospect what we should have done was trade Hemsky a few years ago so we would have a spot for Omark to go nuts with.

Oh well. It's not a huge deal. We were overloaded at his position and so he fell to the wayside. On successful teams there are lots of players like this who don't get a "fair" chance.

I wish Omark the best! If by some miracle he actually thrives in Buffalo I just hope that Oiler fans don't start ripping MacT for the awful trade.

Alright!

Finally the Omark saga with the Oilers is over.
Good luck to him in Buffalo.

Got rid of a career AHLer for a 6th conditional. Whatever.

I wouldn't be too gleeful gentleman, half the guys we get rid of and this forum laughs at end up being very good long term players elsewhere. It's happened time and time again this team has zero clue how to get the best out of players.

He's done far more damage to this teams yearly standings than anything Omark ever did.

We all know Gagner fangirls won't admit it though.

This is comedy gold. Omark is a career AHLer. A guy who can't cut it on the worst team in the NHL. But Gagner, a guy who actually has had mild success in the league, is closer to a guy playing in the Swiss league.

At least there's still a few good reasons to visit this place.

Buffalo and the EC is a good fit for Omark. He'll get minutes and in a conference that doesn't play D.

It is what it is. Omark was never going to be much here or in the WC. Finally he got a move to a different situation where he should get some toi.

If anything It'll be further proof how much easier it is to produce in EC.

Isn't there another Gagner thread where this OT theme could go?
