Semi-Annual Prospect Poll: #16 NYR Prospect

C Michael St. Croix easily won the last place on the Projects List. Tommy Hughes is added to the poll.

Please write who you want added to the poll, and give a reason for it. This makes the discussion here more lively.

WHO IS A PROSPECT: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/whatmakesaprospect

HOW TO RANK PROSPECTS: Based on their value in a hypothetical trade or waiver draft. This takes into consideration a prospect's ceiling, how close he's to making it, his health, work ethic, the whole deal. Imagine there was a prospect waiver draft and you could keep only one prospect. That guy is our #1 prospect. Then imagine we had one more waiver protection. That guy is our #2 prospect.

Let's add Ryan Graves because a big defenseman will be a more important player for a team than a random 4th liner.

Add Noreau for the same reason.

What's up with the love for Andersson? The kid can't even hold his own in the Swedish league. I will bet you he will never come over to North America because he'll realize his max potential is in the AHL, and it, therefore, makes more sense for him to stay in Sweden.

Calle Andersson is no small Dman either. Plays the right side and is having a good season for Malmo as a 19 yr old, a team that features his talented 16yr old brother as one of its best players.

Add Turbo Noreau

I don't think a single sentence in this post was accurate. Impressive feat. How much of Andersson have you watched?

Between watching nearly all the Rangers and all the Wolf Pack games (unless I turn off the WP in disgust from their awful play), plus an occasional college and junior game, in addition to the WJC and the Olympics, I have my hands full without watching the Swedish league.

That said, this year Andersson spent most of his time in the Allsvenskan, the second-tier in Sweden. At one point, he was sent down to the third-tier league, kind of the ECHL of Sweden, for a couple of games. He also spent a few games in their junior league.

I get that Malmo getting relegated may not be his fault, but at the second-tier Sweden level, he should be so good that he doesn't need any time in the third-tier.

I compared the third-tier to the ECHL, but it really isn't, it's worse than that. The SHL is about equal to the AHL. The Allsvenskan, where Andersson spent most of the season, is about even with the ECHL. Not exactly, but that's the North American league closest to the Allsvenskan. The third-tier league where he was sent down for a few games to play is really, really low level.

That's what makes me suspicious about his play. I would expect him to be really, really good (far superior to just being average) at the Allsvenskan level, but there's nothing to suggest that he is.

The games that Andersson played in the lower leagues were rehab stints; it wasn't due to poor play.

Close between Andersson and Andrew. Went with Yogan.

Add Noreau

Was there another G prospect we have - not Stacjer - besides Skapski?
Some undrafted FA, really good supposedly,

Fair enough, but who's watched him enough in Sweden to conclude that he's a superior player in the Allsvenskan? Keep in mind that this league is roughly on par with the ECHL, so I don't want him to just be an ok player there, I want him to be a very good player, much better than the average scrub in that league.

Yeah, Missiaen is our other G prospect and he's just tremendous. I mean, if he played pick up games at the Chelsea Piers hockey rink, people would think he's really good. If he played against disabled children there, I mean. Those children would score no more than 2-3 goals against him per game.

It's fine to plead ignorance, you know. You basically wrote off Andersson despite not having much context.

I think he meant Jeff Malcolm. Missiaen is pitching a shutout tonight down in Greenville.

Add Fogarty.

You're probably thinking off Jeff Malcolm. He's on an AHL deal, so he's technically not ours. And not eligible for this poll.

Add Bourque. read post from last poll. Think he is getting short end of the stick. Numbers going up in the AHL this season. Could become a Stephen Gionta type player.

Good for Miss. He should enjoy the ECHL, that's a good league for him. The bigger question is why MSC isn't playing.

I didn't think Yogan would make it this far.
