I agree. Wheeler is good, but Ryan is better. Johnson is infinitely better than Orpik.

They couldn't have carted Kessel, JvR and Howard over? Or at least sent them out before the PA guy announced them? Was kinda weird waiting and watching them waddle over to the ice.

Ryan's having a good year on top of being pretty consistent over the last couple of years. I guess they felt he was redundant with Pacorietty & JVR on there but I would have taken Ryan over both of them as well.

Hopefully Canada counters with some bone head decisions as well.

Can I blame Orpik's nomination on Bylsma, or will I be called a conspirator? (over Yandle, seriously?)

look forward to listening to Penguin fans justifying the selection of Orpik over Johnson.
Leaving Ryan off was very, very questionable.

No Big Buff. No Ryan. No Yandle. No Okposo. No Johnson.

Just ****ing stupid... apparently even Modano tweeted that he can't believe Ryan wasn't selected.

I don't necessarily mind Yandle being left off because they still have some guys who add some offense from the backed while being more responsible in their own end than Yandle. My guess is they brought him (Orpik) was because he's a bruiser back there who can clear the porch but I would have taken E. Johnson or Bogosian over him with that role in mind.

The US is pretty deep on the blueline so there's going to be some good players left off but I don't like Orpik's selection.

Byfuglien, Yandle, Johnson, Okposo and Ryan not on the team.

What the hell.

Orpik is injured... and not as good as those three D omitted, Johnson is far better than him at both ends of the ice. Fowler and Martin are no where near as good as Yandle in a similar role.

Okposo and Ryan have been among the most prolific American player in the last few years.

Yandle and Byfuglien are the USA's best two offensive D men. 3rd and 4th best PPG among D men in the whole NHL during the last 4 years.

Yandle is pretty damned bad defensively against good competition, I'm OK with him not facing the best in the world for Team USA.

Edit: But I take him over Orpik, geez.

Yeah those 5 not included on the roster is dumb, especially because Orpik is on the team I would suggest it was his coaches influence BUT that would be crazy, either way the team isn't that bad

Ryan is a sleepy skater according to the US selection committee.

lol wut.

I dont have an issue with Buff being left off. I still feel he was behind Johnson and Yandle. I would have taken Okposo over Wheeler as well.
just some bizarre selections overall. only position I have no issue with is the goaltending.

I would of taken Johnson over Yandle, Buff and Orpik.

I guess they're worried about Ryan in an international sized rink?

With goaltending normally I wouldn't care about the third goalie but with Quick coming back from injury I think it's a little more important than it normally would be & Howard hasn't been very good this year. I would have personally taken Schneider or Bishop over him.

I hope Bylsma doesn't turn into an idiot this tournament, the roster selections were already pretty questionable as is.

I have a feeling Pens fans have little reassurance for you.

yeah I really had not thought of the injury factor. if Quick is healthy there are not many goalies I would take over him for the team. But that groin injury could be a concern.

Omitting Bobby Ryan makes a little bit of sense with his skating on the big ice and the depth at wing, but leaving off Yandle is absolutely confounding.

From reading the transcript/write up of that meeting it seems like Burke had waaaaaaay to much of an input and just was picking favourites! The feeling from it was that he and Shero kind of just bullied others into their picks.

Holmgren seemingly wanted Johnson and Yandle.

Didn't want Wheeler.

Suggested Ryan be pushed ahead if they thought he should be an important offensive guy.

It seems like a too many cooks situation... from the talks it seemed like they were picking one or two of Yandle, Johnson or Buff... and then chose non.

Overwhelming vote for Yandle over Fowler among the whole group... then not taken.
