Suggestions of other d-man possibilities

Brad Lukowich #- D

DOB: Aug 12, 1976
Age: 28
Place of Birth: Cranbrook, B.C., Canada
HT: 6-1 WT: 200

A young defensive defenseman

Assets: Plays a smart, conservative game and doesn't take unnecessary chances. Possesses a good shot from the point.

Flaws: Doesn't play with enough toughness. Needs to become more aggressive if he's to take his game to the next level.

Career potential: Defensive defenseman.

Point to remember: Played with Hitch in Dallas. TB didn't want to re-sign him.

Roman Hamrlik

DOB: Apr 12, 1974
Age: 31
Place of Birth: Zlin, Czech. (CZE)
HT: 6-2 WT: 200
Shoots: L

Assets: Has all the physical tools every organization looks for in a top defenseman. Possesses a terrific point shot, a nasty streak and great skating ability.

Flaws: Doesn't always use good judgment on the ice. Can be somewhat erratic at times in the defensive zone.

Career potential: No. 2 defenseman.

He has decent numbers.

Marek Malik
DOB: Jun 24, 1975
Age: 30
Place of Birth: Ostrava, Czech. (CZE)
HT: 6-5 WT: 215
Shoots: L
NHL Seasons: 9

Assets: Has tremendous reach and uses it effectively to poke the puck away from onrushing forwards. Is good at headmanning the puck in transition and plays with smarts in the defensive zone.

Flaws: Needs to use his body more effectively and lean more heavily on the opposition. Must play with more consistency in order to earn top-four minutes on a permanent basis.

Career potential: Defensive defenseman.

Martin Skoula
DOB: Oct 28, 1979
Age: 25
Place of Birth: Litomerice, Czech. (CZE)
HT: 6-2 WT: 195
Shoots: L
NHL Seasons: 5
Drafted by Colorado in 1998 (1/17). Has a Cup with them.

Assets: Is a solid two-way defenseman with excellent offensive potential. Owns a very projectable frame.

Flaws: Still gets himself caught out of position too often, or makes the wrong play at the wrong time. Needs to use better judgment in the defensive zone and boost his production level.

Career potential: Top four defenseman.

Won a Cup with the Avs.

I'd still like Rathje, and I hope the Flyers give him a call. I don't think Rafalski would be bad to look at either - he doesn't have a lot of size of physicality but he does have skill. Curtis Leschyshyn would be a pretty good six or seven guy, and he won't be a high priced guy, either.

My thoughts exactly. I'd prefer Neidermayer, but with Foote signing for what he got, there is no way we could afford Neidermayer. Therefore, I would set my sights on Rathje first, then Raflaski or maybe Hamrlik, with Leschyshyn after that. leschyshyn wouldn't break the bank, and he would be a reliable 5-6 guy who could play 3-4 or necessary.

Seems like Aucoin is out of the picture now. Got this over at Yahoo Sports

"Among the Flyers' "B" list of players are Rafalski, San Jose's Mike Rathje, 31, and Aucoin. The Flyers eliminated Aucoin because his asking price was too high, said agent Larry Kelly."
