I've only watched the 3rd, and only saw Lazar get one shift in the first 10 minutes. Then that short-handed play to set up the goal, wow. What has he done to earn suter's contempt?

To me, Mantha has looked like a dog. No motor, and totally reliant on his comparatively big frame.

Huh?

Lazar is Sutter's go-to guy in all situations.

Patterson is not a very good goalie.

Reminds me of Spezza. He is big, slow, soft, lack intensity and makes a ton of stupid no look passes.

As someone that follows the Hitmen on an on and off basis, I fail to see how Driedger wasn't even on the radar of Hockey Canada. There's no way he's not a better goaltender.

He didn't touch the ice for the 1st 10 minutes of the 3rd. And he'd been demoted from the 1st line at the start of the tournament.

I like Lazar's game, and if he become consistent with his physical take it to the net play he will be the steal of last year's draft.

Connor McDavid is not playing well. I know he is underaged, but he is supposed to be an elite generational talent. Guys in that category have come in to WJC and dominated even as underaged players. I'm sure he will be a solid player for whatever NHL team drafts him, but I think the hype surrounding him should be cooled a bit.

I doubt this tournament has any real bearing on McDavid's draft year. Sydney Crosby got 5 points in 6 games as a 16 year old in WJC.

Lazar is going to be a great pro, all heart. I thought he played much better then Drouin. He outplayed everyone else we could have drafted in 2012.

Sadly team Canada reminds me of the Ottawa Senators this year; I just know they are going to give up a goal, they are going to be a let down.

Lazar was pretty mediocre in the first two periods. Didn't contribute much and didn't look like he was giving his all. He completely turned his game around in the 3rd though. Loved his work on the PK and his net drives. I still don't know how much skill he has, but he'll be a valuable NHLer that much is certain.

Team Canada management looking pretty stupid for handing Paterson the starting job. Kid has done nothing to deserve it, and did not seize the #1 position through great play in the OHL, great play in camp, or great play in the pre-exhibition games. Team Canada had this guy pencilled in as the starter since last WJC, and that decision costed us the game today.

Kinda reminds me of Zib in the 2012 WJC. Not really as noticeable as he should be for most of the game, but seems to be able to find that extra gear in pressure situations that other players don't have.

Not really. Most guys were heavily sheltered as 16 year olds in the past. They were usually given more minutes as 17 year olds.

The biggest problem I see is Sutter. Too old school. Thinking a North American game on international ice just doesn't work, especially in the last 10 years when so many other countries have stepped up and improved their games dramatically.

That's the problem. Hockey Canada is a huge, bloated, political machine stuck on their turn of the millennium glory. They refuse to evolve their development program with the rest of the hockey world. We drastically need to improve our skating - speed, agility, making plays at top speed. The rest of the elite 4 (US, Russia, Sweden, Canada) all skate better as a team than we do, and make amazing skill plays at top speed.

We have so many kids playing the game, if we boosted our skill level overall and combined it better with our hard-working, tenacious nature as Canadians, we'd blow everyone else away.

In a sense, yeah. He passes to areas, instead of tape, when he's under pressure, which is a risk/reward proposition. And he doesn't believe in stop and starts and immediate back pressure, or skating hard to the bench. Is selfishly economical with his energy.
