I don't think there will be any big name signings today. For example, I don't think players like Forsberg or Niedemeyer are going to get the max $7.8M offers that they may be expecting. So, they maybe forced to wait a few days to see what happens.
I think it will be quiet. This year is different from any other year just because the GM's are dealing with a completely different animal. They have to play it smart because of their restricted payrolls. They can't just jump into players like thay have in the past. Benchmarks need to be set for each type of player and with so many teams needing quite a few players to fill out their rosters, they have to be careful on where they spend their money. Many teams would love to have Forsberg, Naslund or Niedermayer and in any other year so many teams would be in the sweepstakes but this year it is easier said then done knowing that 7 million a season could kill a team when its all said and done.
I think we'll see a decent number of signings as we move later into the day today.
I'm guessing that there will be more than a few guys that will see an offer they like from a team they would like to play for and just go for it, rather than risk the money drying up and being left to take whatever they can get.
