To the Sabres, becomes a different version of the Kessel trade.

The Sharks are not trading Couture for a draft pick. The Sharks are contending now and even if they were rebuilding Couture is young enough to hang on to in a rebuild. Honestly I doubt the Sabres would make the trade either as they will still be bad in 2015 and could have a shot at McDavid.

Couture for Reinhart and McDavid sounds alright.

It's a no from the Sabres. I like Couture a lot, but I don't think they'd risk losing out on McDavid for him or, at the very least, getting two extremely good prospects in this and next year's drafts.

It's not a sure thing it will be McDavid.

Sharks would be stupid to give up Logan unless there's a huge overpayment....and a draft pick, even a first rounder in 2015, isn't an overpayment.

When you look at where those picks are likely to be, it sure is.

It would probably take them a fairly long time to say no.... I think the math/probabilities that Joe Will presents Doug Wilson would look very tempting

If you could guarantee that the 1st in 2015 would be top-5, I would say yes. If not... To be honest the only guy I'd take over Couture in 2014 is maaaaaaybe Ekblad, and since we're contending it's an easy no. Obviously I'd take McDavid, and probably Eichel, Barzal, and Hanifin over Couture, but unless you can guarantee one of them it's no way in hell.

Yes from the Oilers.

Giving up the #2 pick is worth it for a guy like Couture, who'll stabilize the center ice position for years to come. I'd take Couture over Reinhart, Draisaitl and Nylander.

Not even close. The Sharks aren't looking for draft picks.
And everyone is saying both picks will be top 5 this year and next year. That's not a guarantee. Look at Colorado. Who expected them to go from 29th? to in a playoff position? Who's to say that Buffalo or Edmonton won't be good next year? There are surprises every year and you can speculate all you want, but it doesn't make anything official.
Now I'm not saying this WILL happen but it could. What if McDavid/Reinhart/Ekbland bust? That makes giving up our future and our current number one center for a bust or two. They could bust. They could not. There's no way to know and you can't be guessing when in a position such as the Sharks are.

Well sure. As a sabres fan I'd give up the first overall pick in this draft for Couture. The OP wants two first round picks for Couture. So would you give up Reinhart/Ekblad and what could very well end up being McDavid/Eichel/Barzal as well? That's a no go as far as I'm concerned.

No way they trade him, especially since they have aging stars. The only time they came close was when Philly was shopping JVR.

They'd have to have the firm belief that it would be the number 1 overall, in this league that's very hard and a HUGE risk.
