Depending on what they're sending, this could be a good potential pickup for the Sens.
Yes, they had problems getting the puck out of the zone.

They are looking for puck movers. Getting trapped in their own zone is leading to a circus defensively. If you can't get the puck out, you are gonna get caught out of position eventually.

Most defensive D don't have a lot of value because they're so one dimensional and strictly D is a lot less fun to watch and a lot less easy to notice then strictly offense. Also, for what it's worth, D mostly just prevents goal. You always need to score at least one goal to win so in that way offense is a lot more appealing then D as well.

If a team is looking for a defensive D that means they're looking for someone along the lines of Luke Schenn, Grossmann, Volchenkov, etc. (or at least once upon a time for Volchenkov). I imagine the Senators would be better off with a solid two-way D who can pitch in at both ends of the ice then purely a defensive D or offensive D (which is almost what Del Zotto is or at least would be if he were producing).

As stated above, Rangers are looking for a RH D.

Thus, your logical framework would involve Del Zotto for Karlsson.

It feels as if someone is pulling Dreger's strings like a puppet. Are the rags getting that desperate?

It will be interesting what he would command in the market. It makes little sense for the Sens due to the system they play but there is a need and maybe they believe they can fix him. I would have to guess the return would be something around Weircioch and maybe a guy like Da Costa. I know it's not what Rangers fan wants to hear but that's about what he's worth.

Highly doubt Del Zotto gets dealt after Stralman left the game in the 1st period.

(If) It's going to be Del Zotto for a depth player/prospect + draft pick. It will be 3 pieces or less to a potential trade, and stop tossing around 1st round picks. Ottawa doesn't that theirs, so they won't trade next year's for a guy like Del Zotto, and they're not going to trade their 2nd in case they don't make the playoffs.

I was implying that we don't have our 2014 1st and were not going to trade the 2015.

Conacher + Gryba. That's what I think it would end up being. Is it fair value for the Rangers? Probably not, but there's no chance they'd get any of our top prospects fir DZ.

Maybe Stone I guess, but id be a little disappointed personally if that happened.

Yeah. The fun factor totally plays a part in trade value.

If they intend to trade him, they surely have a backup plan for injuries after he's gone.

Can't possibly be Conacher and Gryba, because they add up to about half of Del Zotto's salary, violating the whole 'salary in, salary out' mandate.

I wonder if New York would take on Corvo as a stop gap? Right handed, expiring contract at less than a million, and a bottom pairing puck mover good for a point every other game? He's been in and out of the lineup, but has been generally better than expected when he has played.

Corvo + Zack Smith add up to roughly the salary of Del Zotto. Should the Rangers add a pick, I wouldn't rule it out, as Smitty isn't part of Ottawa's untouchable list.

Smith, Corvo for Del Zotto and a 4th?

with Boyle as an UFA, and Lindberg has not been given a chance as of yet, they will need a Boyle replacement.. Smith would be a big upgrade on the 3rd 4th line... still pass from NYR, Rangers need a bit more.. not a fan of Corvo who is an UFA... rather have Borowiecki or Gryba, maybe something like this

Smith, Borowiecki, Stone for Del Zotto and Boyle?
